Abstract

Methods and systems for determining demographics based on user interaction are provided. Demographic information is maintained in association with certain indicators. Information regarding user interaction related to an item of interest is accessed, and indicators may be identified based on the user interaction information associated with a user. It is determined that the user belongs to one or more demographics based on the identified indicators, and a report may be generated.

Claims (39)

1. A method for determining demographics based on user interaction, the method comprising:

accessing information regarding a user of interest from a plurality of digital content sources over a communication network, the accessed information including:

a plurality of user profiles that each indicate at least one demographic characterizing the user of interest, and

one or more language usage indicators regarding use of language by the user of interest, the language usage indicators selected from the group consisting of diction, sentence composition, jargon, and phrasing; and

executing instructions stored in memory, wherein execution of the instructions by a processor:

aggregates demographics characterizing the user of interest based on the plurality of user profiles accessed from the plurality of digital content sources,

identifies one or more new demographics that characterize the user of interest based on a data analysis server applying at least one analytical technique selected from machine learning, artificial intelligence (AI), natural language process (NLP), Bayesian filters and classifiers, and advanced information processing systems to the language usage indicators and the aggregated demographics, and

exports a report indicating that the user belongs to the aggregated demographics and the one or more new demographics, wherein data in the report is exported as a digital file that is formatted for a designated application at a recipient device.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the accessed information regarding the user of interest includes image information captured by at least one camera, scanner, or sensor, and further comprising executing recognition software to analyze the captured image information.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the accessed information further includes metadata generated when the user interacts with online content.

4. The method of claim 3 , further comprising comparing the metadata with harvested information regarding a plurality of other users interacting with the online content.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising storing demographic information in memory of the data analysis server, the stored demographic information including a plurality of demographics, each demographic associated with at least one language usage indicator selected from the group consisting of diction, sentence composition, jargon, and phrasing.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising accessing a remote database that stores demographic information accessable to the data analysis server, the stored demographic information including a plurality of demographics, each demographic associated with at least one language usage indicator selected from the group consisting of diction, sentence composition, jargon, and phrasing.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the identified new demographics for the user is selected from the group consisting of age bracket, gender, income, location, native language, country of origin, educational background, and occupation.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein identifying the new demographics includes analyzing a name of the user by comparing to demographic information associated with the name in association with other users.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein identifying the new demographics is based on words extracted from content created by the user.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein identifying the new demographics includes applying facial structure analysis to an image of the user.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein identifying the new demographics includes analyzing an image of the user that includes one or more other users.

12. An apparatus for determining demographics based on user interaction, the apparatus comprising:

a communications interface that accesses information regarding a user of interest from a plurality of digital content sources over a communication network, the accessed information including:

a plurality of user profiles that each indicate at least one demographic characterizing the user of interest, and

one or more language usage indicators regarding use of language by the user of interest, the language usage indicators selected from the group consisting of diction, sentence composition, jargon, and phrasing; and

a processor for executing instructions stored in memory, wherein execution of the instructions by the processor:

aggregates demographics characterizing the user of interest based on the plurality of user profiles accessed from the plurality of digital content sources,

identifies one or more new demographics that characterize the user of interest based on a data analysis server applying at least one analytical technique selected from machine learning, artificial intelligence (AI), natural language process (NLP), Bayesian filters and classifiers, and advanced information processing systems to the language usage indicators and the aggregated demographics, and

exports a report indicating that the user belongs to the aggregated demographics and the one or more new demographics, wherein data in the report is exported as a digital file that is formatted for a designated application at a recipient device.

13. The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the accessed information regarding the user of interest includes image information captured by at least one camera, scanner, or sensor, and further comprising executing recognition software to analyze the captured image information.

14. The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the accessed information further includes metadata generated when the user interacts with online content.

15. The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the processor executes further instructions to compare the metadata with harvested information regarding a plurality of other users interacting with the online content.

16. The apparatus of claim 12 , further comprising storing demographic information in memory of the data server, the stored demographic information including a plurality of demographics, each demographic associated with at least one language usage indicator selected from the group consisting of diction, sentence composition, jargon, and phrasing.

17. The apparatus of claim 12 , further comprising accessing a remote database that stores demographic information accessable to the data analysis server, the stored demographic information including a plurality of demographics, each demographic associated with at least one language usage indicator selected from the group consisting of diction, sentence composition, jargon, and phrasing.

18. The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the identified new demographics for the user is selected from the group consisting of age bracket, gender, income, location, native language, country of origin, educational background, and occupation.

19. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium, having embodied thereon a program executable by a processor to perform a method for determining demographics based on user interaction, the method comprising:

accessing information regarding a user of interest from a plurality of digital content sources over a communication network, the accessed information including:

a plurality of user profiles that each indicate at least one demographic characterizing the user of interest, and

one or more language usage indicators regarding use of language by the user of interest, the language usage indicators selected from the group consisting of diction, sentence composition, jargon, and phrasing;

aggregating demographics characterizing the user of interest based on the plurality of user profiles accessed from the plurality of digital content sources;

identifying one or more new demographics that characterize the user of interest based on a data analysis server applying at least one analytical technique selected from machine learning, artificial intelligence (AI), natural language process (NLP), Bayesian filters and classifiers, and advanced information processing systems to the language usage indicators and the aggregated demographics, and

exporting a report indicating that the user belongs to the aggregated demographics and the one or more new demographics, wherein data in the report is exported as a digital file for a designated application at a recipient device.
