Abstract

A shoulder and upper arm assembly for a crash test dummy includes a shoulder assembly having a spring housing and a shoulder pivot member pivotally connected to the spring housing. The shoulder assembly includes a spring element disposed in the spring housing and an adjustable member to adjust the friction of the spring element. An upper arm assembly includes a bone assembly having one end connected to the shoulder assembly and another end for connection to a lower arm assembly. The bone assembly includes a bone member made of metal and a load cell connected to the bone member to measure a load on the bone member.

Claims (9)

1. An upper arm assembly for a crash test dummy comprising:

a bone assembly having one end for connection to a shoulder assembly and another end for connection to a lower arm assembly;

said bone assembly including a bone member extending axially and being made of metal; and

a load cell connected to said bone member to measure a load on said bone member as a result of vehicle collision testing.

2. A crash test dummy comprising:

a body;

a spine assembly operatively attached to said body;

a shoulder assembly operatively attached to said spine assembly; and

an upper arm assembly operatively attached to said shoulder assembly and comprising a bone assembly having one end connected to said shoulder assembly and another end for connection to a lower arm assembly, said bone assembly including a bone member extending axially and being made of metal, and a load cell connected to said bone member to measure a load on said bone member as a result of vehicle collision testing.
