Device for disinfecting, sterilizing, and/or maintaining medical instruments and method for identifying the occupancy of an instrument holder in such device
View Patent ↗A device for disinfecting, sterilizing, and/or maintaining medical, in particular dental instruments. The device is optimized in various areas, facilitating the fully automatic, reliable, and reproducible preparation of dental instruments.
1. A device for disinfecting, sterilizing, and/or maintaining medical instruments, comprising
a rinsing chamber,
at least one holder situated in the rinsing chamber for holding the instruments and having a coupling valve or being coupled to a valve,
a pressurized-air feeding system configured to deliver pressurized air into the rinsing chamber, and
means for identifying the occupancy of the holder by an instrument on the basis of a rate of pressure drop in the chamber after the generation of a positive pressure in the rinsing chamber and the opening of the valve of the holder.
2. A device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the device comprises a plurality of said holders and the means for identifying the occupancy of the holders by instruments are designed to establish, in succession, the occupancy of each holder by an instrument.
3. A device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the means for identifying the occupancy of the holder by the instrument comprises a pressure sensor that is not directly coupled to the pressurized-air feeding system.
4. A method for identifying the occupancy of an instrument holder in a device for disinfecting, sterilizing and/or maintaining medical instruments, wherein the device comprises a rinsing chamber and at least one holder situated in the rinsing chamber and adapted to hold an instrument, the at least one holder having at least one opening leading to an outside of the rinsing chamber, the method comprising:
generating a pressure difference between the rinsing chamber and the outside of the rinsing chamber;
measuring at least one of a pressure change in the rinsing chamber and a rate of pressure change in the rinsing chamber; and
determining the occupancy of the holder by an instrument on the basis of at least one of a pressure change in the rinsing chamber and a rate of pressure change in the rinsing chamber.
5. A method as claimed in claim 4 , wherein the device comprises a plurality of said holders and the step of determining the occupancy of the holder includes identifying the occupancy of the holders by instruments by establishing, in succession, the occupancy of each holder by an instrument.
