Abstract

An elongate medical device having an axis comprises an inner liner, a jacket radially outward of the liner, a braid comprising metal embedded in the jacket, a sensor, and at least one wire electrically connected to said sensor. The at least one wire is one of: embedded in the jacket and optionally disposed helically around the braid; extending longitudinally within a tube which extends generally parallel to the device axis and wherein the tube is embedded in the jacket; and disposed within a lumen, wherein the lumen extends longitudinally within the jacket.

Claims (13)

1. An elongate medical device having a longitudinal axis, said medical device comprising:

an inner liner;

a braid comprising metal radially outward of said liner;

a body portion comprising a jacket radially outward of said liner wherein said jacket includes an outer surface, said jacket including a circumferentially-extending first groove in said outer surface configured to receive a sensor, said jacket further including a longitudinally-extending second groove in said outer surface configured to receive a wire; and

a sensor disposed in said first groove, said wire being electrically coupled to said sensor.

2. The elongate medical device of claim 1 , further comprising said wire disposed in said second groove.

3. The elongate medical device of claim 2 , wherein said wire is disposed radially inward from at least a portion of said sensor.

4. The elongate medical device of claim 1 , wherein said sensor comprises a coil.

5. The elongate medical device of claim 1 , wherein said jacket comprises polymer material.

6. The elongate medical device of claim 1 , wherein said first groove has a first radial depth and said second groove has a second radial depth, wherein said second radial depth is greater than said first radial depth.

7. The elongate medical device of claim 1 , wherein one or more of:

said sensor is fixed in said first groove with one or more of adhesive, silicone coating, and heat shrink; and

said wire is fixed in said second groove with one or more of adhesive, silicone coating, and heat shrink.
