Abstract

A method of controlling illumination, including transmitting location information from a communication device to a computer; receiving illumination data with the communication device, where the illumination data is generated by the computer based at least in part on the location information; and transmitting an illumination signal from the communication device to a wearable accessory containing at least one light source, where the illumination signal is based at least in part on the received illumination data and is operable to actuate the at least one light source.

Claims (42)

1. An illumination system, comprising:

an illumination device adapted to illuminate a plurality of colors;

a communication device in wireless communication with the illumination device, the communication device configured to transmit an illumination control signal to the illumination device; and

a computer in wireless communication with the communication device, wherein the computer is programmed to receive location information from the communication device and transmit illumination data to the communication device based at least in part on the received location information.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the computer is programmed to receive personal information from the communication device and transmit illumination data to the communication device based at least in part on the received location information and personal information.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the personal information includes at least one of age, gender, relationship status, and sports team affiliation.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the illumination device is a wearable accessory containing at least light emitting diode (LED).

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the communication device is one of a cellular telephone, a smart phone, a laptop computer, and a computer tablet.

6. An illumination system, comprising:

a computer in wireless communication with a plurality of communication devices, wherein the computer is programmed to:

receive location information from each of the plurality of communication devices; and

transmit illumination data to each of the plurality of communication devices based at least in part on the received location information, wherein the illumination data includes one or more instructions for illuminating a light source.

7. The system of claim 6 , wherein the computer is programmed to receive personal information from each of the plurality of communication devices and transmit illumination data to each of the plurality of communication devices based at least in part on the received personal information.

8. The system of claim 6 , wherein the illumination data includes information for illuminating a plurality of light sources in a coordinated manner.

9. The system of claim 6 , wherein the computer is programmed to generate an image of a spatial relationship between the plurality of communication devices based at least in part on the received location information.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the image includes a visual representation of an event venue.

11. An illumination system, comprising:

an illumination device adapted to illuminate a plurality of colors;

a communication device in wireless communication with the illumination device, the communication device configured to:

wirelessly send location information to a computer;

receive illumination data from the computer, wherein the illumination data is determined at least in part by the location information; and

transmit an illumination control signal to the illumination device, wherein the illumination control signal is based at least in part on the received illumination data.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the illumination device is a wearable accessory containing at least light emitting diode (LED).

13. The system of claim 11 , wherein the communication device is one of a cellular telephone, a smart phone, a laptop computer, and a computer tablet.

14. A computer-implemented method of controlling illumination, comprising:

transmitting location information from a communication device to a computer;

receiving illumination data with the communication device, wherein the illumination data is generated by the computer based at least in part on the location information; and

transmitting an illumination signal from the communication device to a wearable accessory containing at least one light source, wherein the illumination signal is based at least in part on the received illumination data and is operable to actuate the at least one light source.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the location information includes information from a global positioning system.

16. The method of claim 14 , wherein the location information includes identification of a location within an event venue.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the location information includes an audience seat identifier.

18. The method of claim 14 , further comprising:

transmitting location information from each of a plurality of communication devices to the computer;

receiving illumination data with each of the plurality of communication devices, wherein the illumination data is generated by the computer based at least in part on the location information; and

transmitting an illumination signal from each of the plurality of communication device to a plurality of wearable accessories each containing at least one light source, wherein the illumination signal is based at least in part on the received illumination data and is operable to actuate the at least one light source.

19. The method of claim 14 , wherein the illumination data includes information specific to the communication device that receives the illumination data.

20. The method of claim 14 , wherein the illumination data includes instructions for illuminating a plurality of light sources in a coordinated manner.

21. A computer program product for controlling illumination of a product, the program product comprising:

a computer readable storage device;

first program instructions to transmit location information to a remote computer;

second program instructions to receive illumination data from the remote computer, wherein the illumination data is selected based at least in part on the transmitted location information; and

third program instructions to transmit an illumination instruction to a product having at least one light source, wherein the illumination instruction is based at least in part on the received illumination data and is operable to actuate the at least one light source.
