Abstract

The disclosure describes an aerosolizer with (i) means sized for intranasal or paranasal insertion that produces an aerosol from a material for delivery in close proximity to the upper airways, and (ii) the material comprising one or more proinflammatory cytokine inhibitor(s).

Claims (29)

1 - 25 . (canceled)

26 . An aerosolizer comprising

(i) means sized for intranasal or paranasal insertion that produces an aerosol from a material for delivery in close proximity to the upper airways, and

(ii) the material comprising one or more proinflammatory cytokine inhibitor(s).

27 . The aerosolizer of claim 1 , comprising

a nasal sized adapter, spray metering pump unit, a valve system, and a reservoir.

28 . The aerosolizer of claim 1 , comprising

a nasal sized adapter, a reservoir, a metering valve system, and a valve release mechanism where actuation of the metering valve releases the material in close proximity to the upper airways.

29 . The aerosolizer of claim 1 , wherein actuation of the metering valve releases the mixture as an aerosol, preferably containing particles in the size range of less than about 30 microns.

30 . The aerosolizer of claim 1 , comprising a multi-dose system.

31 . The aerosolizer of claim 1 , comprising a closed multi-dose system.

32 . The aerosolizer of claim 1 , wherein the material is a liquid.

33 . The aerosolizer of claim 1 , wherein the material is dispersed using a jet nebulizer.

34 . The aerosolizer of claim 1 , wherein the material is a suspension.

35 . The aerosolizer of claim 1 , wherein the material is liquefied and under pressure.

36 . The aerosolizer of claim 1 , wherein the material is a powder.

37 . The aerosolizer of claim 1 , wherein delivery of the aerosolized material is powered by mechanical pressure driver apparatus.

38 . The aerosolizer of claim 1 , wherein the delivery of the aerosol material depends on energy from patient inspiration to open a valve system providing access to the material.

39 . The aerosolizer of claim 1 , wherein a pressurized propellant powers the delivery of the aerosol material.

40 . The aerosolizer of claim 1 , wherein the delivery of the aerosol material is powered by a pressurized canister controlled by a one-way valve system allowing access to said material.

41 . A kit comprising a container, a label with instructions, and the aerosolizer of claim 1 .

42 . The aerosolizer of claim 1 , comprising a microcatheter for access and advancement into nasal cavity or paranasal sinuses,

wherein the microcatheter comprises,

at least one flexible tubular communicating element with an outer diameter of 1500 micron or less, with a distal end sized to fit within the tissue space and a proximal end connector shaped and sized to attach securely and detachable from the aerosolizer.

43 . The aerosolizer of claim 1 , comprising a microcatheter and a pressure driver apparatus,

wherein a first end of a hollow tube member of the microcatheter is of a sufficient size so as to be able to enter fully or partially the nasal cavity or sinus, and

a second end of the hollow tube member is connected to the pressure driver apparatus, where activation of the pressure driver apparatus delivers the material to the target upper airway region.

44 . The aerosolizer of claim 1 , wherein the proinflammatory cytokine inhibitor is an IL-1 specific inhibitor.

45 . The aerosolizer of claim 1 , wherein the proinflammatory cytokine inhibitor is Anakinra.
