Abstract

The present invention relates to devices and methods for the treatment of diseases in the vasculature, and more specifically, devices and methods for treatment of aneurysms found in blood vessels. In a first embodiment of the present invention, a two part prostheses, where one part is an expandable sponge structure and the other part is an expandable tubular mesh structure, is provided. In the first embodiment, the expandable sponge structure is intended to fill the aneurysm cavity to prevent further dilatation of the vessel wall by creating a buffer or barrier between the pressurized pulsating blood flow and the thinning vessel wall. In the first embodiment, the expandable tubular mesh structure is placed across the aneurysm, contacting the inner wall of healthy vessel proximal and distal to the aneurysm.

Claims (32)

1. A device for treating an aneurysm, the device comprising:

a tubular graft comprising a longitudinal channel, wherein the longitudinal channel is bifurcated at the proximal end of the longitudinal channel;

a first stent attached to the tubular graft; and

an inflatable chamber on the exterior of the tubular graft, wherein the inflatable chamber is configured to receive a filling medium, and wherein the inflatable chamber is only partially around the circumference of the tubular graft.

2. The device of claim 1 , wherein the first stent is at a terminal end of a first longitudinal end of the longitudinal channel.

3. The device of claim 2 , further comprising a second stent and a third stent at terminal ends of a bifurcated second longitudinal end of the longitudinal channel.

4. The device of claim 1 , further comprising a conduit removably attached to the inflatable chamber, wherein the conduit is in fluid communication with the inflatable chamber, and wherein the conduit has a conduit longitudinal axis and a distal port, wherein a fluid exiting the distal port is perpendicular to at least a portion of the length of the conduit longitudinal axis.

5. The device of claim 1 , wherein the inflatable chamber is configured to not fully fill the aneurysm.

6. A device for treating an aneurysm, the device comprising:

a tubular graft comprising a longitudinal channel, wherein the longitudinal channel is bifurcated at the proximal end of the longitudinal channel;

a first stent attached to the tubular graft; and

a first inflatable chamber on the exterior of the tubular graft at a first length along the tubular graft, and a second inflatable chamber on the exterior of the tubular graft at the first length, wherein the first and second inflatable chambers are configured to receive a filling medium, and wherein the first inflatable chamber is only partially around the circumference of the tubular graft and on an opposite side of the longitudinal channel from the second inflatable chamber.

7. The device of claim 6 , wherein the first stent is at a terminal end of a first longitudinal end of the longitudinal channel.

8. The device of claim 7 , further comprising a second gent and a third stent at terminal ends of a bifurcated second longitudinal end of the longitudinal channel.

9. The device of claim 6 , further comprising a conduit removably attached to the first inflatable chamber, wherein the conduit is in fluid communication with the first inflatable chamber, and wherein the conduit has a conduit longitudinal axis and a distal port, wherein a fluid exiting the distal port is perpendicular to at least a portion of the length of the conduit longitudinal axis.

10. A method for treatment of an aneurysm in a blood vessel having a flow of blood comprising:

positioning a device in the aneurysm, wherein the device has a first longitudinal end and a bifurcated second longitudinal end, wherein the device comprises an inflatable chamber, wherein the inflatable chamber is on the radial exterior of the device;

filling the inflatable chamber with a filling medium, wherein the filling medium is delivered to the inflatable chamber through a conduit, and wherein the inflatable chamber is only partially around the circumference of the first longitudinal end; and

detaching the conduit from the device.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the device further comprises a first stent at a terminal end of the first longitudinal end of the device.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the device further comprises a second stent and a third stent at terminal ends of the bifurcated second longitudinal end of the device.

13. The method of claim 10 , wherein the conduit has a conduit longitudinal axis and a distal port, and wherein the filling medium exits the distal port perpendicular to at least a portion of the length of the conduit longitudinal axis.

14. The method of claim 10 , wherein filling the inflatable chamber comprises fully filling the aneurysm.

15. The method of claim 10 , wherein filling the inflatable chamber comprises not fully filling the aneurysm.

16. A method for treatment of an aneurysm in a blood vessel having a flow of blood comprising:

positioning a device in the aneurysm, wherein the device has a first longitudinal end and a bifurcated second longitudinal end, wherein the device comprises an inflatable chamber, wherein the inflatable chamber is on the radial exterior of the device;

filling the inflatable chamber with a filling medium, wherein the filling medium is delivered to the inflatable chamber through a conduit, and wherein the inflatable chamber is only partially around the circumference of one of the bifurcated second longitudinal ends; and

detaching the conduit from the device.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the device further comprises a first stein at a terminal end of the first longitudinal end of the device.

18. The method of claim 17 , wherein the device further comprises a second stent and a third stent at terminal ends of the bifurcated second longitudinal end of the device.

19. The method of claim 16 , wherein the conduit has a conduit longitudinal axis and a distal port, and wherein the filling medium exits the distal port perpendicular to at least a portion of the length of the conduit longitudinal axis.

20. The method of claim 16 , wherein filling the inflatable chamber comprises not fully filling the aneurysm.
