Abstract

Certain example embodiments relate to Ni-inclusive ternary alloy being provided as a barrier layer for protecting an IR reflecting layer comprising silver or the like. The provision of a barrier layer comprising nickel, chromium, and/or molybdenum and/or oxides thereof may improve corrosion resistance, as well as chemical and mechanical durability. In certain examples, more than one barrier layer may be used on at least one side of the layer comprising silver. In still further examples, a Ni x Cr y Mo z -based layer may be used as the functional layer, rather than or in addition to as a barrier layer, in a coating.

Claims (25)

1. A coated article including a coating supported by a glass substrate, the coating comprising:

a first dielectric layer comprising silicon nitride on the glass substrate;

an IR reflecting layer comprising 63-67 wt. % Ni, 1-2 wt. % Cr, and 25-30 wt. % Mo over and contacting the first dielectric layer;

a layer comprising NbZr over and contacting the IR reflecting layer;

a second dielectric layer comprising silicon nitride over and contacting the layer comprising NbZr; and

an overcoat layer comprising an oxide of zirconium over and contacting the second dielectric layer.

2. The coated article of claim 1 , wherein the coating comprises only one IR reflecting layer, and wherein the coated article is used monolithically.

3. An insulated glass (IG) unit, comprising:

the coated article of claim 1 ; and

a second substrate positioned relative to the glass substrate so that the coating is located on surface 1 or on surface 4 of the IG unit.

4. An insulated glass (IG) unit, comprising:

first and second coated articles according to claim 1 ,

wherein the first and second coated articles are oriented relative to one another so that coatings on the first and/or second coated articles is/are on an exterior surface of the IG unit.

5. A coated article including a coating supported by a glass substrate, the coating comprising:

a first dielectric layer on the glass substrate;

an IR reflecting layer comprising 63-67 wt. % Ni, 1-2 wt. % Cr, and 25-30 wt. % Mo over the first dielectric layer; and

a second dielectric layer on the glass substrate over at least the IR reflecting layer.

6. The coated article of claim 5 , wherein the IR reflecting layer contacts each of the first and second dielectric layers.

7. The coated article of claim 5 , wherein the first and second dielectric layers each comprise silicon nitride.

8. The coated article of claim 5 , further comprising a protective overcoat comprising an oxide of zirconium as an outermost layer of the coating.

9. The coated article of claim 5 , further comprising providing a barrier layer between and contacting the IR reflecting layer and the second dielectric layer.

10. The coated article of claim 9 , wherein the barrier layer comprises NbZr.

11. The coated article of claim 5 , wherein the first and second dielectric layers each comprise silicon nitride, and wherein the coating further comprises a layer comprising NbZr provided between the IR reflecting layer and the second dielectric layer.

12. The coated article of claim 5 , wherein the coating comprises only one TR reflecting layer.

13. An insulated glass (IG) window unit comprising the coated article of claim 5 spaced apart and coupled to another substrate.
