Abstract

The zip line rail system can be connected to a challenge course, a zip line, a zip track system, or any combination thereof. The zip line rail system of the present invention can have two rails that a member slide's two wheels rollably engage with, and the zip line rail system can be configured in any of a variety of directions.

Claims (19)

1. A zip line rail system ( 10 ), comprising:

a support member ( 20 );

a fixed rigid rail ( 40 ) supported by the support member;

two rails ( 40 ), a distance ( 120 ) between each rail ( 40 ) defining a track member opening ( 370 );

an inline brake ( 600 ) that can be disposed in a braking position ( 620 ) and a open position ( 670 );

said inline brake ( 600 ) disposed so as to engage with said member slide ( 80 ) to decelerate said member slide ( 80 ) when said inline brake ( 600 ) is in said braking position ( 620 ) when said member slide ( 80 ) contacts said inline brake ( 600 );

said inline brake ( 600 ) has a moveable carriage ( 710 ); said moveable carriage ( 710 ) has a contact member ( 630 ); said contact member 630 interferes with the path of travel of the member slide ( 80 ), when the member slide ( 80 ) makes contact with the contact member ( 630 ) the member slide ( 80 ) moves in unison with the moveable carriage ( 710 ), attaching a force creating mechanism to the carriage ( 710 ) would control the movements of the member slide ( 80 ) said carriage may be contained to a linear path parallel to that of the zip line rail ( 10 ) by means of a track ( 680 ); said track ( 680 ) may be fastened to the zip line rail by a fixture ( 685 ); said fixture ( 685 ) connects directly to the plate ( 30 ).

2. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein when said inline brake ( 600 ) is in said open position ( 670 ) said member slide ( 80 ) can continue to move in a direction of travel ( 650 ).

3. The apparatus of claim 2 , further comprising a force creator ( 660 ) that displaces said inline brake ( 600 ) from said open position ( 670 ) to a braking position ( 620 );

said force creator ( 660 ) also causes said member slide ( 80 ) to decelerate upon said member slide's ( 80 ) contact with said inline brake ( 600 ).

4. A zip line rail system ( 10 ), comprising:

a support member ( 20 );

a rail ( 40 ) supported by the support member;

a member slide ( 80 ) displaceable with respect to said rail ( 40 );

a first member ( 220 );

a second member ( 230 );

said first member ( 220 ) extending from a first member retention means ( 200 ) downwardly through a puck ( 160 ) downwardly to a first member lower retention means ( 470 );

and said second member ( 230 ) extending through said puck ( 160 ) downwardly to a second member lower retention means ( 480 );

whereby said wheels ( 90 ) are disposed upwardly from said puck ( 160 ).
