Abstract

A semantic note taking system and method for collecting information, enriching the information, and binding the information to services is provided. User-created notes are enriched with labels, context traits, and relevant data to minimize friction in the note-taking process. In other words, the present invention is directed to collecting unscripted data, adding more meaning and use out of the data, and binding the data to services. Mutable and late-binding to services is also provided to allow private thoughts to be published to a myriad of different applications and services in a manner compatible with how thoughts are processed in the brain. User interfaces and semantic skins are also provided to derive meaning out of notes without requiring a great deal of user input.

Claims (48)

1. A computer implemented method, comprising:

receiving user-input fitness data in a note at a client device;

enriching the note with experience data pertaining to the fitness data;

enriching the note with physiological data received from a sensor;

enriching the note with contextual data regarding an environment of the client device, the contextual data including temporal data indicating a time when the fitness data was stored in the note;

deriving behavior data based at least in part on an analysis of the physiological data received from the sensor;

constructing a fitness chart based at least in part on analytics rules indicating a progression toward a goal, and wherein the analytics rules derive the progression from the fitness data, the experience data, the behavior data, the contextual data, or a combination thereof;

adding an indicator of the note to the fitness chart; and

generating a user interface including a representation of the fitness chart, wherein the indicators are selectable to cause the user interface to display the note.

2. The computer implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising performing an analysis of the note to identify progress indicators.

3. The computer implemented method of claim 2 , wherein the analysis further comprises identifying locations associated with the experience data.

4. The computer implemented method of claim 1 , wherein displaying the fitness chart includes a progress graph.

5. The computer implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the fitness chart includes a visualized representation of a fitness report.

6. The computer implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the note further comprises a stream of audio media, visual media, audio-visual media, recorded data, a weblink, a pointer to an information source, or any combination thereof.

7. The computer implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the contextual data includes location data, motion data, client device orientation data, time, objects in a vicinity of the client device, date, and communication behaviors.

8. The computer implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the contextual data indicates a physical environment of the client device.

9. The computer implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the fitness chart visualizes a result of a quantitative analysis of at least a portion of the fitness data, experience data, behavior data, and contextual data.

10. The computer implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising selecting a template, wherein the note is enriched based on the template, the analytics rules are selected based on the template, and the fitness chart is constructed based on the template.

11. The computer implemented method of claim 10 , further comprising selecting the template based on the contextual data.

12. The computer implemented method of claim 10 , further comprising selecting the template based on received user input.

13. The computer implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the fitness chart includes a graph, and wherein the indicator of the note is associated with a particular point in the graph corresponding to data included in the note.

14. A client device comprising:

at least one processor; and

at least one memory containing:

instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the client device to:

receive user-input fitness data in a note at the client device;

receive experience data;

enrich the note based on a portion of the experience data pertaining to the fitness data;

receive sensor data from at least one of a client device sensor, a pedometer, a scale, a monitoring or medical device, and a thermometer;

enrich the note with contextual data regarding an environment of the client device, the contextual data including temporal data indicating a time when the fitness data was stored in the note;

derive behavior data based at least in part on analyzed physiological data included in the sensor data;

construct a fitness chart based at least in part on analytics rules indicating a progression toward a goal, and wherein the analytics rules derive the progression from a plurality of data types including at least a portion of the fitness data, the experience data, the behavior data, the contextual data, or a combination thereof;

add an indicator of the note to the fitness chart; and

generate a user interface including a representation of the fitness chart, wherein the indicators are selectable to cause the user interface to display the note.

15. The client device of claim 14 , wherein the instructions cause the client device to identify progress indicators based on the fitness data.

16. The client device of claim 15 , wherein the fitness chart includes a progress graph of the progress indicators.

17. The client device of claim 14 , wherein the instructions cause the client device to identify locations associated with the fitness data.

18. The client device of claim 14 , wherein the note further comprises a stream of audio media, visual media, audio-visual media, recorded data, a weblink, a pointer to an information source, or any combination thereof.

19. The client device of claim 14 , wherein the experience data is communicated over a wireless network.

20. At least one non-transitory computer-readable medium, comprising instructions that, when executed by a client device, cause the client device to:

receive user-input fitness data in a note at a client device;

enrich the note with experience data pertaining to the fitness data;

enrich the note with physiological data received from a sensor;

enrich the note with contextual data regarding an environment of the client device, the contextual data including temporal data indicating a time when the fitness data was stored in the note;

derive behavior data based at least in part on analysis of the physiological data captured by the sensor;

construct a fitness chart based at least in part on analytics rules indicating a progression toward a goal, and wherein the analytics rules derive the progression from a plurality of data types including at least a portion of the fitness data, the experience data, the behavior data, the contextual data, or a combination thereof;

add an indicator of the note to the fitness chart; and

generate a user interface including a representation of the fitness chart, wherein the indicators are selectable to cause the user interface to display the note.
