Abstract

A method comprises providing an interface permitting a first user to control activation of a mobile information channel through which the first user can share access to content with a plurality of additional users, activating the mobile information channel responsive to input received from the first user via the interface, inserting content provided by the first user into the mobile information channel, receiving additional content relating to the mobile information channel from one or more of said additional users via one or more respective mobile devices associated with at least one wireless network, inserting at least a portion of the additional content into the mobile information channel, and integrating into the mobile information channel information associated with at least one wireless networking functionality of said at least one wireless network.

Claims (51)

1. A method comprising:

providing an interface permitting a first user to control activation of a mobile information channel through which the first user can share access to content with a plurality of additional users;

activating the mobile information channel responsive to input received from the first user via the interface;

inserting content provided by the first user into the mobile information channel;

receiving additional content relating to the mobile information channel from one or more of said additional users via one or more respective mobile devices associated with at least one wireless network;

inserting at least a portion of the additional content into the mobile information channel; and

integrating into the mobile information channel information associated with at least one wireless networking functionality of said at least one wireless network.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the information associated with at least one wireless networking functionality of said at least one wireless network comprises location information of a given one of the mobile devices from which at least a portion of the additional content is received.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein integrating into the mobile information channel information associated with at least one wireless networking functionality of said at least one wireless network comprises:

obtaining location information of a given one of the mobile devices from which at least a portion of the additional content is received; and

inserting content into the mobile information channel based on the obtained location information.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein integrating into the mobile information channel information associated with at least one wireless networking functionality of said at least one wireless network comprises:

obtaining product-identifying information over said at least one wireless network; and

inserting content into the mobile information channel based on the obtained product-identifying information.

5. The method of claim 4 wherein inserting content into the mobile information channel based on the received product-identifying information comprises inserting information relating to at least one of product ordering and product purchase support.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein the information associated with at least one wireless networking functionality of said at least one wireless network comprises location-based service information.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein the information associated with at least one wireless networking functionality of said at least one wireless network comprises one or more messaging actions implementable over the wireless network.

8. The method of claim 1 wherein the information associated with at least one wireless networking functionality of said at least one wireless network comprises one or more collaboration actions implementable over the wireless network.

9. The method of claim 1 further comprising providing one or more content integration options to the first user and the plurality of additional users.

10. The method of claim 9 wherein the one or more content integration options are based in part on respective wireless networking functionalities available to the first user and the plurality of additional users.

11. The method of claim 1 wherein the additional content is associated with the mobile information channel via one or more user-activatable control mechanisms.

12. The method of claim 11 wherein the one or more user-activatable control mechanisms comprise a hyperlink.

13. The method of claim 1 wherein inserting at least a portion of the additional content into the mobile information channel comprises inserting advertising content into the mobile information channel along with said portion of the additional content.

14. The method of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of the additional content is obtained from a device-captured data source of the given user, the device-captured data source comprising a source of at least one of device-captured video data, device-captured audio data and device-captured location coordinates.

15. The method of claim 1 wherein the mobile information channel comprises a collaborative workspace.

16. The method of claim 1 further comprising permitting the first user to establish a title for the mobile information channel.

17. The method of claim 1 wherein the mobile information channel comprises a chat channel facilitating interaction between the first user and the plurality of additional users.

18. The method of claim 1 wherein the mobile information channel is associated with an entertainment-related entity.

19. The method of claim 18 wherein the entertainment-related entity comprises at least one of a television program, a movie and a music artist.

20. The method of claim 1 wherein the mobile information channel is associated with a mobile device application.

21. The method of claim 20 wherein the mobile device application comprises a personalized content application.

22. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having embodied therein executable code of one or more software programs for use in managing information content in a network-based communication system, wherein said executable program code when executed by a processing element of the communication system implements the steps of the method of claim 1 .

23. An apparatus comprising:

a processing element comprising a processor coupled to a memory;

the processing element providing at least a portion of an interface permitting a first user to control activation of a mobile information channel through which the first user can share access to content with a plurality of additional users;

the processing element being configured to:

activate the mobile information channel responsive to input received from the first user via the interface;

insert content provided by the first user into the mobile information channel;

receive additional content relating to the mobile information channel from one or more of said additional users via one or more respective mobile devices associated with at least one wireless network;

insert at least a portion of the additional content into the mobile information channel; and

integrate into the mobile information channel information associated with at least one wireless networking functionality of said at least one wireless network.

24. The apparatus of claim 23 wherein the processing element comprises at least one server accessible over the Internet via a network interface.

25. A network-based communication system, comprising:

a plurality of servers configured to communicate over a network;

at least one of the servers providing at least a portion of an interface permitting a first user to control activation of a mobile information channel through which the first user can share access to content with a plurality of additional users;

wherein said at least one server is configured to:

activate the mobile information channel responsive to input received from the first user via the interface;

insert content provided by the first user into the mobile information channel;

receive additional content relating to the mobile information channel from one or more of said additional users via one or more respective mobile devices associated with at least one wireless network;
