Abstract

A band is formed to secure to a part of a person. A motion detection device is provided for detecting movement of the person. The motion detection device is secured to the band. A visual display is provided for conveying information to the person. The visual display is secured to the band in conjunction with the motion detection device.

Claims (36)

1 . An apparatus, comprising:

a band formed to secure to a part of a person;

a motion detection device for detecting movement of the person, the motion detection device secured to the band; and

a visual display for conveying information to the person, the visual display secured to the band in conjunction with the motion detection device.

2 . An apparatus as recited in claim 1 , wherein the part of the person is a wrist.

3 . An apparatus as recited in claim 1 , wherein the visual display includes one or more light emitting diodes.

4 . An apparatus as recited in claim 3 , further comprising:

circuitry disposed within the band to control illumination of the one or more light emitting diodes in a manner to indicate an amount of movement of the person as detected by the motion detection device.

5 . An apparatus as recited in claim 3 , further comprising:

circuitry disposed within the band to control illumination of the one or more light emitting diodes in a manner to indicate when an amount of movement of the person as detected by the motion detection device has exceeded a preset threshold amount of movement.

6 . An apparatus as recited in claim 3 , wherein the visual display includes a series of light emitting diodes arranged in a linear configuration.

7 . An apparatus as recited in claim 6 , further comprising:

circuitry disposed within the band to control illumination of the series of light emitting diodes in a progressive manner from one end of the linear configuration toward an opposite end of the linear configuration such that an illuminated amount of the series of light emitting diodes is proportional to an amount of movement of the person as detected by the motion detection device.

8 . An apparatus as recited in claim 7 , wherein each light emitting diode in the series of light emitting diodes is defined to have a same color when illuminated.

9 . An apparatus as recited in claim 7 , wherein some light emitting diodes in the series of light emitting diodes are defined to have different colors when illuminated.

10 . An apparatus as recited in claim 9 , wherein the different colors are associated with the amount of movement of the person as detected by the motion detection device.

11 . A method, comprising:

detecting movement of a person by use of a motion detection device, the motion detection device secured to a band formed to secure to a part of the person; and

conveying information to the person through a visual display secured to the band in conjunction with the motion detection device.

12 . A method as recited in claim 11 , wherein the part of the person is a wrist.

13 . A method as recited in claim 11 , further comprising:

illuminating one or more light emitting diodes within the visual display.

14 . A method as recited in claim 13 , further comprising:

controlling illumination of the one or more light emitting diodes in a manner to indicate an amount of movement of the person as detected by the motion detection device.

15 . A method as recited in claim 13 , further comprising:

controlling illumination of the one or more light emitting diodes in a manner to indicate when an amount of movement of the person as detected by the motion detection device has exceeded a preset threshold amount of movement.

16 . A method as recited in claim 13 , further comprising:

controlling illumination of a series of light emitting diodes arranged in a linear configuration within the visual display.

17 . A method as recited in claim 16 , further comprising:

controlling illumination of the series of light emitting diodes in a progressive manner from one end of the linear configuration toward an opposite end of the linear configuration such that an illuminated amount of the series of light emitting diodes is proportional to an amount of movement of the person as detected by the motion detection device.

18 . A method as recited in claim 17 , further comprising:

controlling illumination of the series of light emitting diodes such that each light emitting diode in the series of light emitting diodes has a same color when illuminated.

19 . A method as recited in claim 17 , further comprising:

controlling illumination of the series of light emitting diodes such that some light emitting diodes in the series of light emitting diodes have different colors when illuminated.

20 . A method as recited in claim 19 , further comprising:

associating the different colors with the amount of movement of the person as detected by the motion detection device.
