Cleaning compositions and methods
View Patent ↗The present invention relates, in part, to cleaning methods and solvent cleaning compositions including at least one hydrofluoro-olefin or hydrochlorofluoro-olefin solvent for use in connection with cleaning of metal parts, and in certain preferred embodiments cleaning metal parts to be used in an aircraft.
1. A method of cleaning aircraft-metal parts contaminated with cutting oil comprising the steps of:
a. providing a solvent composition comprising at least about 50% by weight of 1-chloro-3,3,3,-trifluoropropene (HFCO-1233zd); and
b. cleaning the aircraft-metal part contaminated with said cutting oil by contacting the metal part with said solvent composition, said metal part comprising a metal or a metal alloy selected from the group consisting of aluminum and aluminum alloys, titanium and titanium alloys; zinc and zinc alloys; tungsten and tungsten alloys; copper and copper alloys; Inconel-Ni alloys; silver and silver alloys; cadmium and cadmium alloys; stainless steels; gold and gold alloys, and silver and silver alloys, wherein said metal part is substantially free of said cutting oil after said cleaning step.
2. The method of claim 1 wherein said contacting step comprises spraying said metal part with said solvent composition.
3. The method of claim 1 wherein said contacting step comprises immersing said metal part in said solvent composition.
4. The method of claim 1 wherein said solvent composition is in a liquid phase during said immersing step.
5. The method of claim 1 wherein said solvent composition is in a vapor phase during said immersing step.
