Abstract

Techniques for motion profiles in wearable devices are described, including receiving motion-related data, user-related data, and environmental-related data from one or more sensors coupled to one or more wearable devices, forming a motion profile using the motion-related data, determining an activity using the motion profile, the user-related data, and the environmental-related data, the activity comprising sleep, and setting a mode of operation of one of the one or more wearable devices to a sleep mode, the mode of operation being configured to be set to one of the sleep mode and another mode. A sampling rate of one of the one or more sensors in the sleep mode may be set to be lower than the sampling rate of the one of the one or more sensors in the another mode.

Claims (32)

1 . A method, comprising:

receiving motion-related data, user-related data, and environmental-related data from one or more sensors coupled to one or more wearable devices;

forming a motion profile using the motion-related data;

determining an activity using the motion profile, the user-related data, and the environmental-related data, the activity comprising sleep; and

setting a mode of operation of one of the one or more wearable devices to a sleep mode, the mode of operation being configured to be set to one of the sleep mode and another mode,

wherein a sampling rate of one of the one or more sensors in the sleep mode is set to be lower than the sampling rate of the one of the one or more sensors in the another mode.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining a state of sleep using at least one of the motion-related data, the user-related data, and the environmental-related data.

3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining a sleep disorder using at least one of the motion-related data, the user-related data, and the environmental-related data.

4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining a sleep position using at least one of the motion-related data, the user-related data, and the environmental-related data.

5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining a duration of the activity comprising sleep using at least one of the motion-related data, the user-related data, and the environmental-related data.

6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining the activity using historic user-related data, the historic user-related being received from the one or more sensors at a past time and stored in a memory.

7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising causing storage of the motion profile on a memory, the memory being configured to be accessible by a plurality of users.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the user-related data comprises heart rate data.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the environmental-related data comprises ambient light data.

10 . A system, comprising:

a memory configured to store motion-related data, user-related data, and environmental-related data received from one or more sensors coupled to one or more wearable devices; and

a processor configured to form a motion profile using the motion-related data, to determine an activity using the motion profile, the user-related data, and the environmental-related data, the activity comprising sleep, and to set a mode of operation of one of the one or more wearable devices to a sleep mode, the mode of operation being configured to be set to one of the sleep mode and another mode,

wherein a sampling rate of one of the one or more sensors in the sleep mode is set to be lower than the sampling rate of the one of the one or more sensors in the another mode.

11 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the processor is further configured to determine a state of sleep using at least one of the motion-related data, the user-related data, and the environmental-related data.

12 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the processor is further configured to determine a sleep disorder using at least one of the motion-related data, the user-related data, and the environmental-related data.

13 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the processor is further configured to determine a sleep position using at least one of the motion-related data, the user-related data, and the environmental-related data.

14 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the processor is further configured to determine a duration of the activity comprising sleep using at least one of the motion-related data, the user-related data, and the environmental-related data.

15 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the processor is further configured to determine the activity using historic user-related data, the historic user-related being received from the one or more sensors at a past time and stored in a memory.

16 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the processor is further configured to cause storage of the motion profile on a memory, the memory being configured to be accessible by a plurality of users.

17 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the user-related data comprises temperature data.

18 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the environmental-related data comprises audio data.

19 . A computer program product embodied in a computer readable medium and comprising computer instructions for:

receiving motion-related data, user-related data, and environmental-related data from one or more sensors coupled to one or more wearable devices;

forming a motion profile using the motion-related data;

determining an activity using the motion profile, the user-related data, and the environmental-related data, the activity comprising sleep; and

setting a mode of operation of one of the one or more wearable devices to a sleep mode, the mode of operation being configured to be set to one of the sleep mode and another mode,

wherein a sampling rate of one of the one or more sensors in the sleep mode is set to be lower than the sampling rate of the one of the one or more sensors in the another mode.
