Abstract

A population activity mapping method may include detecting a plurality of wireless mobile devices within a geographic region. Individual wireless mobile devices may include a processor, a user interface, a transmitter and a receiver. The detecting operation may be performed by use of a wireless access point, a GPS satellite, and/or a base station, and may be performed at least two different points in time. Input data may be provided based upon the detecting operation. A distance and speed at which the mobile devices travel within the geographic region may be discerned dependent upon the input data. The discerning operation is performed by at least one processor of a computer network. A time and/or location at which salable output is to be made available and/or an amount of salable output to be made available may be determined dependent upon the discerning operation.

Claims (53)

1. An apparatus effective to track potential purchasers, the apparatus comprising:

a mobile device locator configured to detect wireless mobile devices within a geographic region at two or more different points in time;

a source of demographic information related to the wireless mobile devices;

a source of historical information related to the wireless mobile devices; and

a computer arrangement including:

a memory configured to be in communication with the source of the demographic information and with the source of the historical information, wherein the memory is configured to store the demographic information and the historical information; and

a processor configured to be in communication with the mobile device locator and with the memory, wherein the processor is configured to:

discern a current location, a current speed, and a current direction of travel for the wireless mobile devices within the geographic region based on the detection of the wireless mobile devices by the mobile device locator;

identify a set of the wireless mobile devices that are estimated to be within proximity of a particular location at a specified time or specified time period, based on the current location, the current speed, and the current direction of travel for the wireless mobile devices within the geographic region;

retrieve the historical information and the demographic information related to the identified set of the wireless mobile devices from the memory;

identify a portion of the identified set of the wireless mobile devices based on at least one of the demographic information or the historical information retrieved from the memory, wherein the identified portion is associated with goods or services that are available proximate to the particular location at the specified time or specified time period; and

determine a quantity of the goods or services to be made available to users associated with the identified portion of the identified set of the wireless mobile devices, so as to facilitate provision of the determined quantity of the goods or services at the particular location at the specified time or specified time period to the users.

The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to evaluate data related to the current location, the current speed, the current direction of travel, and the particular location based on at least one search criterion, wherein the determination of the quantity is further based on the evaluated data.

3. The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising a user interface, wherein the processor is further configured to present information related to the goods or services on the user interface.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the mobile device locator is further configured to detect the wireless mobile devices by aggregation of data from a plurality of sources.

5. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the determination of the quantity is based on an identity of the mobile device locator.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the determination of the quantity is based on one or more of a day of a week and/or a time of a day.

7. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the determination of the quantity is based on a change over time in a number of the wireless mobile devices that are detected.

8. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the mobile device locator is configured to use one or more of: a wireless access point, a plurality of global positioning system (GPS) satellites, and/or a plurality of cellular base stations.

9. An apparatus effective to track potential purchasers, the apparatus comprising:

a memory configured to store instructions; and

a processor configured to be in communication with the memory, wherein the processor is configured to execute the instructions to:

detect wireless mobile devices within a geographic region at two or more different points in time;

discern a current location, a current speed, and a current direction of travel for the wireless mobile devices within the geographic region based on the detection of the wireless mobile devices;

identify a set of the wireless mobile devices that are estimated to be within proximity of a particular location at a specified time or specified time period, based on the current location, the current speed, and the current direction of travel for the wireless mobile devices within the geographic region;

retrieve demographic information related to the identified set of the wireless mobile devices;

retrieve historical information related to the identified set of the wireless mobile devices;

identify a portion of the identified set of the wireless mobile devices based on at least one of the demographic information or the historical information, wherein the identified portion is associated with goods or services that are available proximate to the particular location at the specified time or specified time period; and

determine a quantity of the goods or services to be made available to users associated with the identified portion of the identified set of the wireless mobile devices, so as to facilitate provision of the determined quantity of the goods or services at the particular location at the specified time or specified time period to the users.

The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the processor is further configured to execute the instructions to evaluate data related to the current location, the current speed, the current direction of travel, and the particular location based on at least one search criterion, and wherein the determination of the quantity is further based on the evaluated data.

11. The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the processor is further configured to execute the instructions to detect the wireless mobile devices by aggregation of data from a plurality of sources.

12. The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the processor is further configured to execute the instructions to present information related to the goods or services on a user interface.

13. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the processor is further configured to execute the instructions to:

estimate a number of undetected wireless mobile devices within each of a plurality of demographic categories; and

predict a level of demand for salable output of a provider based on the estimated number of undetected wireless mobile devices within each of the plurality of demographic categories.

14. An apparatus effective to generate information related to goods or services, the apparatus comprising:

a mobile device locator configured to detect wireless mobile devices within a geographic region at two or more different points in time;

a source of demographic information related to the wireless mobile devices;

a source of historical information related to the wireless mobile devices;

a memory configured to be in communication with the source of the demographic information and with the source of the historical information, wherein the memory is configured to store the demographic information and the historical information; and

a processor configured to be in communication with the mobile device locator and with the memory, wherein the processor is configured to:

discern a current location, a current speed, and a current direction of travel for the wireless mobile devices within the geographic region based on the detection of the wireless mobile devices by the mobile device locator;

identify a set of the wireless mobile devices that are estimated to be within proximity of a particular location at a specified time or specified time period, based on the current location, the current speed, and the current direction of travel for the wireless mobile devices within the geographic region;

retrieve the historical information and the demographic information related to the identified set of the wireless mobile devices from the memory;

identify a portion of the identified set of the wireless mobile devices based on at least one of the demographic information or the historical information retrieved from the memory, wherein the identified portion is associated with the goods or services that are available proximate to the particular location at the specified time or specified time period;

determine a quantity of the goods or services to be made available to users associated with the identified portion of the set of the wireless mobile devices; and

generate the information related to the goods or services, wherein the information includes indications of: the specified time or specified time period, the particular location, and the determined quantity, so as to facilitate provision of the determined quantity of the goods or services at the particular location, at the specified time or specified time period to the users.

The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the processor is further configured to evaluate data related to the current location, the current speed, the current direction of travel, and the particular location based on at least one search criterion, and wherein the determination of the quantity is further based on the evaluated data.

16. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the mobile device locator is configured to detect the wireless mobile devices by aggregation of data from a plurality of sources.

17. The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the determination of the quantity is based on an identity of the mobile device locator.

18. The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the determination of the quantity is based on one or more of a day of a week and/or a time of a day.

19. The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the determination of the quantity is based on a change over time in a number of the wireless mobile devices that are detected.

20. The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the mobile device locator is configured to use one or more of: a wireless access point, a plurality of global positioning system (GPS) satellites, and/or a plurality of cellular base stations.
