Abstract

One embodiment of a medical monitor includes a lanyard and an electronic package supported in the manner of a pendant. Another embodiment of a medical monitor attaches adhesively to a patient. Both embodiments include a reusable portion housing electronic components for processing measurements of the patient's physiological condition, and a disposable portion including a battery. The physiological measurements may be transmitted to a remote location along with a signal identifying the patient.

Claims (27)

1. A monitoring device, comprising:

a reusable portion comprising an electronic circuit, the electronic circuit comprising,

a high pass filter,

an amplifier,

a processor configured to analyze analog sensor data to produce patient condition data, wherein the high pass filter is positioned before the amplifier and the amplifier is positioned before the processor in the electronic circuit, and wherein the processor is configured to identify a lethal arrhythmia, and

a transmitter configured to transmit the patient condition data to a base station in real-time, wherein the patient condition data indicates occurrence of a lethal arrhythmia; and

a disposable portion removably connectable to the reusable portion, the disposable portion comprising,

a power source, whereby power from the power source is supplied to the electronic circuit upon connection of the disposable portion to the reusable portion,

a physiological sensor connected to the disposable portion, whereby the physiological sensor is electrically connected to the electronic circuit when the disposable portion is connected to the reusable portion, and

an electronic identification tag associated with the disposable portion.

2. The monitoring device as claimed in claim 1 , further comprising an adhesive support for adhering the monitoring device to a subject.

3. The monitoring device as claimed in claim 2 , wherein the adhesive support is connected only to the disposable portion.

4. The monitoring device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the disposable portion further comprises a bar code label encoding a serial number matching the electronic identification tag.

5. A monitoring device, comprising:

a first portion including an electronic circuit, the electronic circuit comprising,

a high pass filter,

an amplifier,

a processor configured to analyze analog sensor data to produce patient condition data, wherein the high pass filter is positioned before the amplifier and the amplifier is positioned before the processor in the electronic circuit, and wherein the processor is configured to identify a lethal arrhythmia;

a disposable portion removably connectable to the first portion, the disposable portion comprising,

a power source, whereby power from the power source is supplied to the electronic circuit upon connection of the disposable portion to the first portion, and

an identification tag comprising an electronic identification tag and a barcode; and

an adhesive support for adhering the disposable portion to a subject.

6. The monitoring device as claimed in claim 5 , further comprising:

a physiological sensor connected to the disposable portion, whereby the physiological sensor is electrically connected to the electronic circuit when the disposable portion is connected to the first portion.

7. The monitoring device as claimed in claim 5 , wherein the electronic circuit includes a transmitter.

8. The monitoring device as claimed in claim 5 , wherein the identification tag is operable to identify the subject.

9. The monitoring device as claimed in claim 5 , wherein the barcode encodes an identifier matching the electronic identification tag.
