Abstract

A pharmaceutical waste disposal assembly ( 10 ) for disposing of fluid pharmaceutical waste comprises a fluid receiver body ( 219 ) and a fluid absorber ( 270 A). The fluid receiver body ( 219 ) receives the fluid pharmaceutical waste. The fluid absorber ( 270 A) is positioned within the fluid receiver body ( 219 ). The fluid absorber ( 270 A) absorbs and retains the fluid pharmaceutical waste. The fluid absorber ( 270 A) includes a plurality of levels ( 270 L, 270 M, 270 U) that are spaced apart from one another. The plurality of levels ( 270 L, 270 M, 270 U) can be oriented substantially vertically relative to one another so that the fluid pharmaceutical waste is distributed to each of the plurality of levels ( 270 L, 270 M, 270 U) of the fluid absorber ( 270 A).

Claims (28)

1. A pharmaceutical waste disposal assembly for disposing of fluid pharmaceutical waste, the pharmaceutical waste disposal assembly comprising:

a fluid receiver body that receives the fluid pharmaceutical waste; and

a fluid absorber that is positioned within the fluid receiver body, the fluid absorber absorbing and retaining the fluid pharmaceutical waste, the fluid absorber including a plurality of levels that are oriented substantially vertically relative to one another so that the fluid pharmaceutical waste is directly distributed to each of the plurality of levels of the fluid absorber.

2. The pharmaceutical waste disposal assembly of claim 1 wherein each of the plurality of levels are spaced apart from one another.

3. The pharmaceutical waste disposal assembly of claim 1 wherein the fluid absorber includes at least three levels that are spaced apart from one another.

4. The pharmaceutical waste disposal assembly of claim 1 further comprising a fluid distributor that is positioned substantially within the fluid receiver body, the fluid distributor directly distributing the fluid pharmaceutical waste to each of the plurality of levels of the fluid absorber.

5. The pharmaceutical waste disposal assembly of claim 1 wherein the fluid absorber includes a super absorbent polymer.

6. The pharmaceutical waste disposal assembly of claim 1 wherein the fluid absorber converts the fluid pharmaceutical waste to one of a gelatinous material and a solid material.

7. The pharmaceutical waste disposal assembly of claim 1 further comprising an absorber retainer that maintains the positioning of the fluid absorber within the fluid receiver body.

8. The pharmaceutical waste disposal assembly of claim 1 further comprising a reaction agent that is positioned between adjacent levels of the fluid absorber, the reaction agent changing the fluid pharmaceutical waste in one of a chemical and physical manner so that the pharmaceutical waste is rendered unrecoverable.

9. The pharmaceutical waste disposal assembly of claim 1 further comprising a fluid processor that is positioned within the fluid receiver body, the fluid processor including one of a deodorizer, an antimicrobial agent, an antibacterial agent and an antifungal agent that processes the fluid pharmaceutical waste.

10. A pharmaceutical waste disposal assembly for disposing of fluid pharmaceutical waste, the pharmaceutical waste disposal assembly comprising:

a fluid receiver body that receives the fluid pharmaceutical waste; and

a fluid absorber that is positioned within the fluid receiver body, the fluid absorber absorbing and retaining the fluid pharmaceutical waste, the fluid absorber including a plurality of levels that are spaced apart from one another so that the fluid pharmaceutical waste is directly distributed to each of the plurality of levels of the fluid absorber.

11. The pharmaceutical waste disposal assembly of claim 10 further comprising a reaction agent that is positioned between adjacent levels of the fluid absorber, the reaction agent changing the fluid pharmaceutical waste in one of a chemical and physical manner so that the pharmaceutical waste is rendered unrecoverable.

12. The pharmaceutical waste disposal assembly of claim 10 wherein the fluid absorber includes a super absorbent polymer.

13. The pharmaceutical waste disposal assembly of claim 10 wherein the fluid absorber converts that fluid pharmaceutical waste to one of a gelatinous material and a solid material.

14. The pharmaceutical waste disposal assembly of claim 10 further comprising an absorber retainer that maintains the positioning of the fluid absorber within the fluid receiver body.

15. The pharmaceutical waste disposal assembly of claim 10 wherein the plurality of levels of the fluid absorber are oriented vertically relative to one another.

16. The pharmaceutical waste disposal assembly of claim 15 wherein the fluid pharmaceutical waste is distributed to each of the plurality of levels of the fluid absorber.

17. The pharmaceutical waste disposal assembly of claim 16 further comprising a fluid distributor that is positioned substantially within the fluid receiver body, the fluid distributor directly distributing the fluid pharmaceutical waste to each of the plurality of levels of the fluid absorber.

18. The pharmaceutical waste disposal assembly of claim 10 further comprising a fluid distributor that is positioned substantially within the fluid receiver body, and wherein the plurality of levels of the fluid absorber are oriented horizontally relative to one another.

19. The pharmaceutical waste disposal assembly of claim 10 further comprising a fluid processor that is positioned within the fluid receiver body, the fluid processor including one of a deodorizer, an antimicrobial agent, an antibacterial agent and an antifungal agent that processes the fluid pharmaceutical waste.

20. A pharmaceutical waste disposal assembly for disposing of fluid pharmaceutical waste, the pharmaceutical waste disposal assembly comprising:

a fluid receiver body that receives the fluid pharmaceutical waste;

a fluid absorber that is positioned within the fluid receiver body, the fluid absorber absorbing and retaining the fluid pharmaceutical waste, the fluid absorber including a super absorbent polymer that converts the fluid pharmaceutical waste to one of a gelatinous material and a solid material, the fluid absorber including a plurality of levels such that are spaced apart from one another;

an absorber retainer that maintains the positioning of the fluid absorber within the fluid receiver body; and

a fluid distributor that is positioned substantially within the fluid receiver body, the fluid distributor distributing the fluid pharmaceutical waste to each of the plurality of levels of the fluid absorber.
