Abstract

An inventory management system includes: a mobile communication device; and a server configured to communicate with the mobile device. The server is configured to communicate inventory information from an inventory database to the mobile communication device and the mobile communication device is configured to communicate inventory update information to the server, and the server is further configured to update the inventory database based on the inventory update information.

Claims (29)

1 . An inventory management system, comprising:

a mobile communication device; and

a server configured to communicate with the mobile device,

wherein the server is configured to communicate inventory information from an inventory database to the mobile communication device and the mobile communication device is configured to communicate inventory update information to the server, and

the server is further configured to update the inventory database based on the inventory update information.

2 . The inventory management system of claim 1 , wherein the mobile communication device comprises a display, and

wherein the mobile communication device is configured to generate one or more graphical user interfaces.

3 . The inventory management system of claim 2 , wherein the mobile communication device further comprises a touch screen, and

the mobile communication device is configured to receive inventory update information via the touch screen.

4 . The inventory management system of claim 1 , wherein the mobile communication device and the server are configured to communicate via a wireless communication link.

5 . The inventory management system of claim 1 , further comprising a printer,

wherein the mobile communication device is configured to communicate with the printer via a wireless communication link, and

the printer is configured to print at least one of purchase orders and inventory reports in response to inventory data received from the mobile communication device.

6 . The inventory management system of claim 1 , further comprising a remote server and a remote inventory database.

7 . The inventory management system of claim 6 , wherein the mobile communication device is configured to communicate inventory update information to the remote server via the internet.

8 . A non-transitory computer readable medium having stored therein a program for making a processor execute a method for managing inventory, the program including processor executable instructions for performing steps comprising:

generating a graphical user interface, the graphical user interface comprising an option selection display;

selecting an option from the option selection display; and

communicating inventory information to and receiving inventory information from a server in accordance with the selected option.

9 . The non-transitory computer readable medium having stored therein a program as defined in claim 8 , the program further including processor executable instructions for performing steps comprising generating a graphical display comprising a category entry user interface,

wherein the category entry user interface is configurable to display a plurality of user-defined categories.

10 . The non-transitory computer readable medium having stored therein a program as defined in claim 9 , wherein the user-defined categories comprise one or more of temporal categories and location-based categories.

The non-transitory computer readable medium having stored therein a program as defined in claim 8 , the program further including processor executable instructions for performing steps comprising generating a graphical display comprising a plurality of multifunction buttons when a user-defined category is selected,

wherein the multifunction buttons are operable to initiate display of graphical display screens configured to accept and display user input inventory information.

The non-transitory computer readable medium having stored therein a program as defined in claim 11 , the program further including processor executable instructions for performing steps comprising generating a graphical display screen that provides an updatable counter as at least one function of one or more of the plurality of multifunction buttons.

The non-transitory computer readable medium having stored therein a program as defined in claim 11 , the program further including processor executable instructions for performing steps comprising generating a graphical display screen that provides editable information related to an item as at least one function of one or more of the plurality of multifunction buttons.

14 . The non-transitory computer readable medium having stored therein a program as defined in claim 8 , the program further including processor executable instructions for performing steps comprising generating a graphical display screen comprising a purchase order generation user interface,

wherein the purchase order user interface is configured to provide inventory information for generating purchase orders, and

wherein the purchase order user interface is operable to initiate electronic transmission of purchase orders.
