Abstract

An LED lamp includes a plurality of LED modules arranged in direction x, a tubular enclosure for housing the LED modules that is open at ends spaced from each other in direction x, and end caps respectively closing the ends of the tubular enclosure in direction x. Each of the end caps is configured to diffuse light from the LED modules while transmitting the light, and includes an emission surface for emitting light in a direction z perpendicular to direction x. This arrangement ensures that the LED lamp has a good appearance even when it is made long.

Claims (22)

1. An LED lighting apparatus comprising:

an LED module that comprises a substrate, and a plurality of LED chips disposed on the substrate, wherein the LED chips are arranged in a first direction and form a plurality of rows spaced from each other in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction, and the LED chips in one of two adjacent rows and the LED chips in the other one of the two adjacent rows are deviated from each other in the first direction to form a staggered arrangement;

a support member supporting the substrate and elongated in the first direction; and

a diffusion cover connected to the support member and covering the LED chips for diffusing light from the LED chips and emitting the light to outside;

wherein the diffusion cover includes a strong diffusion region that includes a portion closest to the LED chips as viewed in the first direction and that diffuses light from the LED chips to a higher degree than an average for an entirety of the diffusion cover, and

the strong diffusion region is lower in light transmittance than other portions of the diffusion cover.

2. The LED lighting apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the diffusion cover is thicker at a portion closer to the LED chips as viewed in the first direction.

3. The LED lighting apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the strong diffusion region is made of a material that diffuses light from the LED chip more strongly than a material for other portions of the diffusion cover.

4. The LED lighting apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the strong diffusion region comprises a main body of the diffusion cover and a diffusion member laid on the main body to diffuse light from the LED chips.

5. The LED lighting apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein: the LED chips are disposed such that light is emitted from the LED chips mainly in a thickness direction of the substrate; and

as viewed in the first direction, an outer configuration of the diffusion cover is in a form of an ellipse at a center of which the LED chips are positioned, with minor axis of the ellipse extending in the thickness direction of the substrate.

6. The LED lighting apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the substrate is in a form of a rectangle elongated in the first direction.

7. The LED lighting apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein

the plurality of LED chips are incorporated in a plurality of light emitting portions, respectively,

each of the light emitting portions including a light emission surface that is in a form of an elongated rectangle as viewed in a thickness direction of the substrate, and

the light emitting portions are arranged such that a longer side of the light emission surface extends in the first direction.

8. The LED lighting apparatus according to claim 7 , wherein, in each of the rows, the light emitting portions are arranged at regular intervals smaller than the longer side of the light emission surface.

9. The LED lighting apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein

the plurality of LED chips are incorporated in a plurality of light emitting portions, respectively,

each of the light emitting portions including a light emission surface that is in a form of an elongated rectangle as viewed in a thickness direction of the substrate, and

wherein the light emitting portions are arranged such that a shorter side of the light emission surface extends in the first direction.

10. The LED lighting apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the number of the rows is two.
