Abstract

A system for implanting a heart valve includes a radially self-expandable tubular body having an inflow end and an outflow end and a projection extending from a side surface of the tubular body toward the inflow end. The system further includes a valve disposed within and attached to the tubular body, and may include fabric that forms a pouch between the tubular body and the projection.

Claims (27)

1. A system for implanting a heart valve, comprising:

a radially self-expandable tubular body having an inflow end at a proximal end and an outflow end at a distal end, and a projection extending from a side surface of the tubular body toward the inflow end such that a channel is formed by the tubular body and the projection, the tubular body being configured to move between a compressed, delivery state and an expanded, deployed state; and

a fabric attached to the tubular body and covering at least a terminal, free end of the projection such that the fabric forms a pouch in the channel, the pouch being configured to prevent tissue and/or a trapping member from sliding down too far between the tubular body and the projection;

wherein

the channel has a distal-most point at a position where a radially inward surface of the projection attaches to the side surface of the tubular body, the fabric has a first end attached to an inflow side of the tubular body, and the fabric extends distally from the first end over the tubular body, and covers the terminal, free end of the projection such that a distal-most point of the pouch is suspended between the tubular body and the projection and is proximally spaced from the distal-most point of the channel ; and

the tubular body is configured to have a valve disposed therein and attached thereto.

2. The system according to claim 1 , further including an elongate outer member configured to be moved into the pouch and guide heart tissue into the pouch such that the heart tissue is between the tubular body and the elongate outer member.

3. The system according to claim 2 , further including a trapping member configured to be disposed along the elongate outer member and trap the heart tissue in the pouch.

4. The system according to claim 3 , wherein the fabric is configured to move from a slack state to a tensioned state when the trapping member moves between the projection and the tubular body.

5. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the fabric further includes a second end attached to the tubular body in the vicinity of the outflow end.

6. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the fabric further includes a second end attached to the projection.

7. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the fabric is polyester fabric.

8. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the fabric further includes a second end that is radially spaced from the out flow end of the tubular body.

9. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the fabric further includes a second end such that the outflow end of the tubular body curves radially inward and the second end of the fabric is configured to curve radially outward.

10. The system according to claim 1 , wherein

the first end of the fabric is distal of a proximal-most end of the tubular body in an outflow direction.

11. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the distal-most point of the pouch is not fixed to the tubular body or the projection.

12. A system for implanting a heart valve, comprising:

a radially self-expandable tubular body having an inflow end at a proximal end and an outflow end at a distal end, and a projection extending from a side surface of the tubular body toward the inflow end such that a channel is formed by the tubular body and the projection, the tubular body being configured to move between a compressed, delivery state and an expanded, deployed state;

a fabric attached to the tubular body; and

an elongate outer member configured to be moved into contact with the fabric such that the fabric forms a pouch in the channel, the pouch being configured to prevent tissue and/or a trapping member from sliding down too far between the tubular body and the projection;

wherein:

the channel has a distal-most point at a position where a radially inward surface of the projection attaches to the side surface of the tubular body, the fabric has a first end attached to an inflow side of the tubular body, and the fabric extends distally from the first end over the tubular body, and covers the terminal, free end of the projection such that a distal-most point of the pouch is suspended between the tubular body and the projection, and is proximally spaced from the distal-most point of the channel; and

the tubular body is configured to have a valve disposed therein and attached thereto.

13. The system according to claim 12 , wherein the elongate outer member is configured to guide heart tissue into the pouch such that the heart tissue is between the tubular body and the elongate outer member.

14. The system according to claim 12 , wherein the fabric is configured to move from a slack state to a tensioned state when the elongate outer member moves into contact with the fabric between the projection and the tubular body.

15. The system according to claim 12 , wherein the distal-most point of the pouch is not attached to the tubular body or the projection.
