Abstract

Methods, systems, computer-readable media, and apparatuses for dynamically determining and applying a zoom amount when entering a sniper mode are presented. In one or more embodiments, a computing device may provide a user interface that includes a controlled vehicle and a target vehicle. Subsequently, the computing device may receive a request to enter a sniper mode. In response to receiving the request to enter the sniper mode, the computing device may determine a zoom amount based on a size of the target vehicle and a distance from the controlled vehicle to the target vehicle. The computing device then may update the user interface based on the zoom amount to enter the sniper mode.

updating, by the computing device, the user interface based on the zoom amount to enter the sniper mode.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the zoom amount is further based on a size of the target vehicle.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein updating the user interface includes:

displaying the target vehicle at a first magnification level based on the determined zoom amount.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein updating the user interface further includes:

receiving, by the computing device, user input aiming the reticle at the target vehicle; and

in response to receiving the user input aiming the reticle at the target vehicle, displaying, by the computing device, the target vehicle at a second magnification level greater than the first magnification level.

5. The method of claim 1 ,

wherein the controlled vehicle is controlled by a user of the computing device,

wherein the user interface includes an arcade view of the controlled vehicle and the target vehicle before the request to enter the sniper mode is received, the arcade view providing a third-person perspective of the controlled vehicle and the target vehicle, and

wherein the sniper mode is configured to provide a first-person perspective of the target vehicle from the controlled vehicle.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the zoom amount is determined to be less than a predefined maximum zoom amount.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, by the computing device, a request to return to an arcade view; and

in response to receiving the request to return to the arcade view, updating, by the computing device, the user interface to exit the sniper mode.

8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, by the computing device, a selection of a second target vehicle while in the sniper mode;

determining, by the computing device, a new zoom amount based on a size of the second target vehicle and the distance from the controlled vehicle to the second target vehicle; and

updating, by the computing device, the user interface based on the new zoom amount.

9. The method of claim 1 ,

wherein the reticle portion of the user interface is locked onto the target vehicle in the sniper mode, and

wherein the reticle portion of the user interface is updated to track movement of the target vehicle while in the sniper mode.

10. A computing device, comprising:

at least one processor; and

memory storing computer-readable instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the computing device to:

provide a user interface that includes a controlled vehicle and a target vehicle;

receive a request to enter a sniper mode;

in response to receiving the request to enter the sniper mode, determine a zoom amount based on a distance from the controlled vehicle to the target vehicle, wherein determining the zoom amount includes calculating the zoom amount to provide at least one predefined margin within a reticle included in a reticle portion of the user interface, the at least one predefined margin providing a predefined amount of space between the target vehicle and at least one edge of the reticle included in the reticle portion of the user interface; and

update the user interface based on the zoom amount to enter the sniper mode.

11. The computing device of claim 10 , wherein updating the user interface includes:

displaying the target vehicle at a first magnification level based on the determined zoom amount.

12. The computing device of claim 11 , wherein updating the user interface further includes:

receiving user input aiming the reticle at the target vehicle; and

in response to receiving the user input aiming the reticle at the target vehicle, displaying the target vehicle at a second magnification level greater than the first magnification level.

13. The computing device of claim 10 ,

wherein the controlled vehicle is controlled by a user of the computing device,

wherein the user interface includes an arcade view of the controlled vehicle and the target vehicle before the request to enter the sniper mode is received, the arcade view providing a third-person perspective of the controlled vehicle and the target vehicle, and

wherein the sniper mode is configured to provide a first-person perspective of the target vehicle from the controlled vehicle.

14. The computing device of claim 10 , wherein the zoom amount is determined to be less than a predefined maximum zoom amount.

15. The computing device of claim 10 , wherein the memory stores additional computer-readable instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, further cause the computing device to:

receive a request to return to an arcade view; and

in response to receiving the request to return to the arcade view, update the user interface to exit the sniper mode.

16. The computing device of claim 10 , wherein the memory stores additional computer-readable instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, further cause the computing device to:

receive a selection of a second target vehicle while in the sniper mode;

determine a new zoom amount based on a size of the second target vehicle and the distance from the controlled vehicle to the second target vehicle; and

update the user interface based on the new zoom amount.

17. The computing device of claim 10 ,

wherein the reticle portion of the user interface is locked onto the target vehicle in the sniper mode, and

wherein the reticle portion of the user interface is updated to track movement of the target vehicle while in the sniper mode.

18. One or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing computer-executable instructions that, when executed, cause a computing device to:

provide a user interface that includes a controlled vehicle and a target vehicle;

receive a request to enter a sniper mode;

in response to receiving the request to enter the sniper mode, determine a zoom amount based on a distance from the controlled vehicle to the target vehicle wherein determining the zoom amount includes calculating the zoom amount to provide at least one predefined margin within a reticle included in a reticle portion of the user interface, the at least one predefined margin providing a predefined amount of space between the target vehicle and at least one edge of the reticle included in the reticle portion of the user interface; and
