Abstract

Described are systems and methods for acquiring three-dimensional location information. Also described are systems and methods for using the acquired three-dimension location information to locate users and enhance their experience in relation to location-based services.

Claims (92)

1. A computer-implemented method for estimating one or more positions of one or more receivers, the method comprising:

identifying a plurality of estimated altitudes corresponding to a plurality of historical positions of the one or more receivers in a building using one or more processors;

identifying a height for each of a plurality floors in the building based on the plurality of estimated altitudes using the one or more processors;

determining a first estimate of a position corresponding to a receiver from the one or more receivers using the one or more processors;

setting the current position of the receiver as the first estimate of the receiver's position using the one or more processors;

determining a second estimate of the receiver's position using the one or more processors;

determining whether the second estimated position, relative to the first estimated position, indicates that the receiver has moved more than a threshold distance using the one or more processors;

after determining that the second estimated position, relative to the first estimated position, indicates that the receiver has moved more than a threshold distance, determining whether one or more sensors of the receiver indicate that the receiver actually moved more than the threshold distance using the one or more processors;

setting, based on determining that the one or more sensors of the receiver indicate that the receiver moved more than the threshold distance, the current position of the receiver as the second estimate of the receiver's position using the one or more processors; and

maintaining, based on determining that the one or more sensors of the receiver indicate that the receiver did not move more than the threshold distance, the current position of the receiver as the first estimate of the receiver's position using the one or more processors.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the method comprises:

identifying a first set of estimated altitudes that are within a threshold amount of distance from each other;

identifying a first height that corresponds to the first set of estimated altitudes; and

mapping the first height to a first floor of the building.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the first height is based on an average of each estimated altitude in the first set of altitudes.

4. The method of claim 2 , wherein the method comprises:

identifying a second set of estimated altitudes, from the plurality of estimated altitudes, that are within the threshold amount of distance from each other;

identifying a second height that corresponds to the second set of estimated altitudes; and

mapping the second height to a second floor of the building.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the method comprises:

dividing the plurality of estimated altitudes into sets of estimated altitudes that are within the threshold amount of distance from each other;

identifying a total number of the sets; and

determining a minimum number of floors in the building based on a total number.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the method comprises:

determining a three-dimensional position estimate of Corresponding to the receiver;

comparing the three-dimensional position estimate to a first geo-fence associated with a first building;

determining, based on the comparison, a first relationship between the three-dimensional position estimated and the first building, wherein the first relationship specifies whether the three-dimensional position estimated is within the first building, outside of the first building, or within an adjacent building; and

determining a confidence level related to the first relationship.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the method comprises:

determining a position estimate corresponding to the receiver; and

disabling an application on the receiver based on a comparison of the position estimate and a first set of three-dimensional position information corresponding to a first geo-fence inside a building.

8. One or more non-transitory computer-readable media embodying program instructions adapted to be executed by one or more processors to implement a method for estimating one or more positions of one or more receivers, the method comprising:

identifying a plurality of estimated altitudes corresponding to a plurality of historical positions of the one or more receivers in a building;

identifying a height for each of a plurality floors in the building based on the plurality of estimated altitudes;

determining a first estimate of a position corresponding to a receiver from the one or more receivers;

setting the current position of the receiver as the first estimate of the receiver's position;

determining a second estimate of the receiver's position;

determining whether the second estimated position, relative to the first estimated position, indicates that the receiver has moved more than a threshold distance;

after determining that the second estimated position, relative to the first estimated position, indicates that the receiver has moved more than a threshold distance, determining whether one or more sensors of the receiver indicate that the receiver actually moved more than the threshold distance;

setting, based on determining that the one or more sensors of the receiver indicate that the receiver moved more than the threshold distance, the current position of the receiver as the second estimate of the receiver's position; and

maintaining, based on determining that the one or more sensors of the receiver indicate that the receiver did not move more than the threshold distance, the current position of the receiver as the first estimate of the receiver's position.

9. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 8 , the method comprising:

identifying a first set of estimated altitudes that are within a threshold amount of distance from each other;

identifying a first height that corresponds to the first set of estimated altitudes; and

mapping the first height to a first floor of the building.

10. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 9 , wherein the first height is based on an average of each estimated altitude in the first set of altitudes.

11. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 9 , the method comprising:

identifying a second set of estimated altitudes, from the plurality of estimated altitudes, that are within the threshold amount of distance from each other;

identifying a second height that corresponds to the second set of estimated altitudes; and

mapping the second height to a second floor of the building.

12. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 8 , the method comprising:

dividing the plurality of estimated altitudes into sets of estimated altitudes that are within the threshold amount of distance from each other;

identifying a total number of the sets; and

determining a minimum number of floors in the building based on a total number.

13. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 8 , the method comprising:

determining a three-dimensional position estimate of-corresponding to the receiver;

comparing the three-dimensional position estimate to a first geo-fence associated with a first building;

determining, based on the comparison, a first relationship between the three-dimensional position estimate and the first building, wherein the first relationship specifies whether the three-dimensional position estimate is within the first building, outside of the first building, or within an adjacent building; and

determining a confidence level related to the first relationship.

14. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 8 , the method comprising:

determining a position estimate corresponding to the receiver; and

disabling an application on the receiver based on a comparison of the position estimate and a first set of three-dimensional position information corresponding to a first geo-fence inside a building.

15. A system for estimating one or more positions of one or more receivers, wherein the system comprises one or more processors and is operable to:

identify a plurality of estimated altitudes corresponding to a plurality of historical positions of the one or more receivers in a building;

identify a height for each of a plurality floors in the building based on the plurality of estimated altitudes;

determine a first estimate of a position corresponding to a receiver from the one or more receivers;

set the current position of the receiver as the first estimate of the receiver's position;

determine a second estimate of the receiver's position;

determine whether the second estimated position, relative to the first estimated position, indicates that the receiver has moved more than a threshold distance;

after determining that the second estimated position, relative to the first estimated position, indicates that the receiver has moved more than a threshold distance, determine whether one or more sensors of the receiver indicate that the receiver actually moved more than the threshold distance;

set, based on determining that the one or more sensors of the receiver indicate that the receiver moved more than the threshold distance, the current position of the receiver as the second estimate of the receiver's position; and

maintain, based on determining that the one or more sensors of the receiver indicate that the receiver did not move more than the threshold distance, the current position of the receiver as the first estimate of the receiver's position.

16. The system of claim 15 , further operable to:

identify a first set of estimated altitudes that are within a threshold amount of distance from each other;

identify a first height that corresponds to the first set of estimated altitudes; and

map the first height to a first floor of the building.

17. The system of claim 16 , further operable to:

identify a second set of estimated altitudes, from the plurality of estimated altitudes, that are within the threshold amount of distance from each other;

identify a second height that corresponds to the second set of estimated altitudes; and

map the second height to a second floor of the building.

18. The system of claim 15 , further operable to:

divide the plurality of estimated altitudes into sets of estimated altitudes that are within the threshold amount of distance from each other;

identify a total number of the sets; and

determine a minimum number of floors in the building based on a total number.

19. The system of claim 15 , further operable to:

determine a three-dimensional position estimate of-corresponding to the receiver;

compare the three-dimensional position estimate to a first geo-fence associated with a first building;

determine, based on the comparison, a first relationship between the three-dimensional position estimate and the first building, wherein the first relationship specifies whether the three-dimensional position estimate is within the first building, outside of the first building, or within an adjacent building; and

determine a confidence level related to the first relationship.

20. The system of claim 15 , further operable to:

determine a position estimate corresponding to the receiver; and

disable an application on the receiver based on a comparison of the position estimate and a first set of three-dimensional position information corresponding to a first geo-fence inside a building.
