Claims (12)

1. A method for reducing root-knot nematode infestation in a plant in need thereof comprising

applying to the plant, one or more seeds of the plant, and/or a substrate in which the plant is grown, an amount of a whole cell broth of an isolated strain of a Chromobacterium subtsugae sp. nov. (NRRL B-30655), or a supernatant, filtrate or extract of the whole cell broth, effective to reduce said root-knot nematode infestation.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the method comprises applying the whole cell broth of an isolated strain of a Chromobacterium subtsugae sp. nov. (NRRL B-30655).

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the method comprises applying the supernatant, filtrate, or extract of the whole cell broth.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the whole cell broth or the supernatant, filtrate, or extract of the whole cell broth is applied to the substrate and the substrate is soil.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the whole cell broth or the supernatant, filtrate, and/or extract of the whole cell broth is applied by soil drench.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the whole cell broth or the supernatant, filtrate, or extract of the whole cell broth is applied to the plant.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the whole cell broth or the supernatant, filtrate, or extract of the whole cell broth is applied to the one or more seeds.

8. A method for reducing root-knot nematode infestation in a plant in need thereof comprising applying to the plant, one or more seeds of the plant, and/or a substrate in which the plant is grown, composition consisting essentially of a whole cell broth of an isolated strain of a Chromobacterium subtsugae sp. nov. (NRRL B-30655), in an amount effective to reduce said root-knot nematode infestation.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the composition is applied to the plant.

10. The method of claim 8 , wherein the composition is applied to the one or more seeds.

11. The method of claim 8 , wherein the composition is applied to the substrate and the substrate is soil.
