Abstract

A sensor interface is configured to receive a sensor signal. A transmitter generates a transmit signal. A receiver receives the signal corresponding to the transmit signal. Further, a monitor interface is configured to communicate a waveform to the monitor so that measurements derived by the monitor from the waveform are generally equivalent to measurements derivable from the sensor signal.

Claims (18)

1. A pulse oximetry system comprising:

a receiver configured to communicate with a monitor device; and

a wrist-mountable pulse oximetry device including:

a wrist mount usable to mount the wrist-mountable pulse oximetry device on a wrist of a user;

a housing coupled to the wrist mount;

a sensor interface housed by the housing and configured to receive a sensor signal from a pulse oximetry sensor, the sensor signal indicative of oxygen saturation and pulse rate of the user; and

a transmitter housed by the housing and configured to:

modulate a first baseband signal responsive to said sensor signal so as to generate the transmit signal; and

wirelessly transmit the transmit signal to the receiver,

wherein the receiver is further configured to:

receive the wirelessly transmitted signal from the wrist-mountable pulse oximetry device; and

adapt the received wirelessly transmitted signal to a monitor-compatible signal utilizing characterization information specific to the monitor device, the monitor-compatible signal adapted for compatibility with the monitor device, the monitor-compatible signal usable by the monitor device to provide physiological parameter measurements consistent with the sensor signal received from the pulse oximetry sensor.

2. The pulse oximetry system of claim 1 , wherein the wrist mount comprises a wrist strap.

3. The pulse oximetry system of claim 1 , wherein the wrist-mountable pulse oximetry device further includes:

one or more input mechanisms useable by the user to affect at least one of the operational mode or characteristics of the wrist-mountable pulse oximetry device.

4. The pulse oximetry system of claim 3 , wherein the one or more input mechanisms comprise keys.

5. The pulse oximetry system of claim 1 , wherein adapting the received wirelessly transmitted signal further includes adapting the received wirelessly transmitted signal to the monitor-compatible signal such that the monitor-compatible signal is further usable by the monitor device to provide measurements of perfusion index and signal quality.

6. The pulse oximetry system of claim 1 , wherein the physiological parameter measurements include at least oxygen saturation and pulse rate of the user.
