Abstract

In one embodiment, a method of directing calls on a mobile communication device comprises receiving a call signal at the mobile communication device from a short-range enabled communication device operably connected with the mobile communication device, accessing subscriber identity module data of the short-range enabled communication device, preparing an outgoing call signal using the accessed subscriber identity module data of the short-range enabled communication device, establishing a communication session between the short-range enabled communication device and a network, and transmitting the outgoing call signal to the network.

Claims (30)

1. A method of directing calls on a mobile communication device, the method comprising:

receiving a call signal at the mobile communication device from a short-range enabled communication device operably connected to the mobile communication device;

in response to determining that the call signal is for a call associated with a subscriber identity module data of the mobile communication device, that a subscriber identity module access connection between the mobile communication device and the short-range enabled communication device is active, and that subscriber identity module data of the short-range enabled communication device is available for the mobile communication device, preparing an outgoing call signal using the subscriber identity module data for the short-range enabled communication device;

establishing a communication session between the short-range enabled communication device and a network using a communication subsystem of the mobile communication device; and

transmitting the outgoing call signal to the network.

2. The method according to claim 1 wherein the call signal is received via a short-range radio communication signal.

3. The method according to claim 1 wherein the call signal comprises a circuit-switched call signal and the subscriber identity module data comprises an E.164 telephone number.

4. The method according to claim 1 wherein the call signal comprises a packet-switched call signal and the subscriber identity module data comprises a uniform resource identifier.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the establishing a communication session between the short-range enabled communication device and a network further comprises establishing a communication session between a short-range communication link between the short-range enabled communication device and the mobile communication device.

6. A mobile communication device comprising:

a first communication subsystem operable to communicate with a wireless network;

a short-range communication subsystem operable to communicate with a short-range enabled communication device having a subscriber identity module; and

a microprocessor operably connected to the first communication subsystem, to the short-range communication subsystem, and to a memory containing instructions that when executed by the microprocessor cause the mobile communication device:

receiving a call signal at the mobile communication device from a short-range enabled communication device operably connected to the mobile communication device;

in response to determining that the call signal is for a call associated with a subscriber identity module data of the mobile communication device, that a subscriber identity module access connection between the mobile communication device and the short-range enabled communication device is active, and that subscriber identity module data of the short-range enabled communication device is available for the mobile communication device, preparing an outgoing call signal using the subscriber identity module data for the short-range enabled communication device;

establishing a communication session between the short-range enabled communication device and a network using a communication subsystem of the mobile communication device; and

transmitting the outgoing call signal to the network.

7. The mobile communication device of claim 6 wherein the call signal is received via the short-range communication subsystem.

8. The mobile communication device of claim 6 wherein the call signal comprises a circuit-switched call signal and the subscriber identity module data comprises an E.164 telephone number.

9. The mobile communication device of claim 6 wherein the call signal comprises a packet-switched call signal and the subscriber identity module data comprises a uniform resource identifier.

10. The mobile communication device of claim 6 , wherein the establishing a communication session between the short-range enabled communication device and a network further comprises establishing a communication session between a short-range communication link between the short-range enabled communication device and the mobile communication device.

11. A computer program product for directing calls on a mobile communication device, the computer program product comprising a non-transitory computer readable storage medium having program instructions embodied therewith, the program instructions executable by a device to cause the device to perform a method comprising:

receiving a call signal at the mobile communication device from a short-range enabled communication device operably connected to the mobile communication device;

in response to determining that the call signal is for a call associated with a subscriber identity module data of the mobile communication device, that a subscriber identity module access connection between the mobile communication device and the short-range enabled communication device is active, and that subscriber identity module data of the short-range enabled communication device is available for the mobile communication device, preparing an outgoing call signal using the subscriber identity module data for the short-range enabled communication device;

establishing a communication session between the short-range enabled communication device and a network using a communication subsystem of the mobile communication device; and

transmitting the outgoing call signal to the network.

12. The computer program product according to claim 11 wherein the call signal is received via a short-range radio communication signal.

13. The computer program product according to claim 11 wherein the call signal comprises a circuit-switched call signal and the subscriber identity module data comprises an E.164 telephone number.

14. The computer program product according to claim 11 wherein the call signal comprises a packet-switched call signal and the subscriber identity module data comprises a uniform resource identifier.

15. The computer program product of claim 11 , wherein the establishing a communication session between the short-range enabled communication device and a network further comprises establishing a communication session between a short-range communication link between the short-range enabled communication device and the mobile communication device.
