Abstract

Projected input and output devices adapt o a desktop environment by sensing objects at the desktop environment and altering projected light in response to the sensed objects. For instance, projection of input and output devices is altered to limit illumination against and end user's hands or other objects disposed at a projection surface. End user hand positions and motions are detected to provide gesture support for adapting a projection work space, and configurations of projected devices are stored so that an end user can rapidly recreate a projected desktop. A projector scan adjusts to limit traces across inactive portions of the display surface and to increase traces at predetermined areas, such as video windows.

Claims (52)

1 . An information handling system comprising:

a housing;

an input sensor interfaced with the processing components and operable to sense inputs made by an end user at the input device; and

an object response engine operable to execute on one or more of the processing components and interfaced with the input sensor, the object response engine analyzing information sensed by the input sensor to detect an object proximate to the input device and to provide a response upon detecting the object or upon detecting a user's physical interaction with the object.

2 . The information handling system of claim 1 wherein:

the object comprises a portable information handling system placed on the projection surface within a field of projection of the projector; and

the response comprises automatically establishing a wireless interface with the portable information handling system.

3 . The information handling system of claim 2 wherein the object response engine is further operable to:

determine an orientation of the portable information handling system; and

in response to a determined orientation, perform at least a first response for a first determined orientation and a second response for a second determined orientation.

4 . The information handling system of claim 3 wherein the first orientation comprises a display visible to the input sensor and the first response comprises a data transfer through the wireless interface, and the second orientation comprises a display not visible to the input sensor and the second response comprises a establishing a WiFi hotspot through the portable information handling system.

5 . The information handling system of claim 1 wherein:

the object comprises a portable information handling system placed on the projection surface, the portable information handling system having a logo; and

the response comprises automatically executing an application with the processing components based upon a determination of the logo type.

6 . The information handling system of claim 1 wherein:

the object comprises a writing instrument; and

the response comprises recording writing motions if a first end of the writing instrument moves proximate the projection surface, and erasing recorded writing motions if a second end of the writing instrument moves proximate the projection surface.

7 . The information handling system of claim 1 wherein:

the object comprises an item associated with a predetermined device, the predetermined device having an end user interface; and

the response comprises projection of a keyboard at the projection surface with the projector for the predetermined device and communicating inputs at the keyboard to the predetermined device through the processing components.

8 . The information handling system of claim 7 wherein the object comprises a token haying an identifier for the predetermined device.

projecting an input device at a projection surface with a projector having a field of projection;

sensing an object disposed proximate the projection surface and within the field of projection;

analyzing the object to determine a predetermined characteristic; and

in response to determining the predetermined characteristic, performing a predetermined response related to the object.

10 . The method of claim 9 wherein:

analyzing the object to determine a predetermined characteristic further comprises determining that the object has writing on it; and

15 . The method of claim 14 wherein object comprises a mobile telephone and the input device comprises a keyboard to make inputs to the mobile telephone.

16 . The method of claim 9 wherein:

analyzing the object to determine a predetermined characteristic further comprises determining that the object includes a camera operable to capture visual images and save the visual images as files stored in local memory; and

in response to the determining the predetermined characteristic, performing a predetermined response related to the object further comprises performing a search of remote memory to locate visual image files taken with the camera, and projecting on the projection surface at least some of the visual images taken with the camera.

17 . The method of claim 16 further comprising:

comparing the visual image files stored in the local memory and the visual image files stored in the remote memory; and

selecting as the at least some of the visual images for projecting to include the visual image files stored in local memory but not stored in the remote memory.

18 . A system for object initiated response associated with a projected input device, the system comprising:

a projector operable to project images at a projection surface within a projection field of view, the images including at least an input device;

an input sensor operable to sense objects in the projection field of view including at least inputs made by an end user at the input device; and

an object response engine stored in non-transitory memory and interfaced with the input sensor, the object response engine analyzing information sensed by the input sensor to detect an object and to provide a response upon detecting the object.
