Abstract

A display device includes: a light emission control part which allows a light source to emit the light having one of the plural different main wavelengths in each of plural sub frames; a display panel which controls the transmission of light in each pixel; and a display control part which controls the display panel corresponding to a gray level value with respect to the each pixel, wherein the light emitting control part performs the light emission of light having a first main wavelength in a first sub frame in accordance with a light emission amount weighted based on a time for calculation including a first interval which is a interval between the first sub frame where the first main wavelength is emitted and a second sub frame where the first main wavelength is emitted after the first sub frame.

Claims (23)

1 . A display device, comprising:

a light source that independently emits lights of a plurality of different dominant wavelengths;

an emission controller that continuously emits a light of one dominant wavelength from among the plurality of different dominant wavelengths to the light source in each subframe that is a plurality of time intervals from among a time period of one frame that is a display period of one screen;

a display panel that controls transmission of a light irradiated from the light source in each pixel; and

a display controller that controls transmission of a light according to a gradation value for each pixel of the display panel; wherein

the emission controller emits a first dominant wavelength in a first subframe by an emission amount weighted based on a calculation time that includes a first interval that is an interval between a first subframe, which emits a first dominant wavelength that is one from among a plurality of lights of different dominant wavelengths, and a second subframe, which, after the first subframe, next emits the first dominant wavelength.

2 . The display device according to claim 1 , wherein the calculation time further includes a second interval that is an interval between the first subframe and a third subframe, which is immediately before the first subframe, that emits the first dominant wavelength.

3 . The display device according to claim 1 , wherein the interval is a time interval in a range from a time interval of a non-emission period between adjacent subframes that emit lights of the same dominant wavelength to a time interval between emission centers of the adjacent subframes.

4 . The display device according to claim 1 , wherein the interval is a time interval between the emission centers of adjacent subframes that emit lights of the same dominant wavelength.

5 . The display device according to claim 1 , wherein the interval is a time interval of the non-emission period between adjacent subframes that emit lights of the same dominant wavelength.

The display device according to claim 1 , wherein the weighted emission amount is a brightness, and the emission controller weights the emission amount so the emission amount is proportional to a size of the calculation time without changing a total emission amount of a predetermined number of frames.

7 . The display device according to claim 1 , wherein the one frame is configured from three subframes in three colors of red (R), green (G), and blue (B).

8 . The display device according to claim 1 , wherein the one frame is configured from a total of four subframes with three for the three colors of red (R), green (G), and blue (B) and one from among any of the three colors of red (R), green (G), and blue (B).

9 . The display device according to claim 1 , wherein the one frame is configured from six subframes.

10 . The display device according to claim 1 , wherein a disposition of a subframe that emits a light where a dominant wavelength is a wavelength in a range of green is fixed in the one frame.

11 . The display device according to claim 10 , wherein an emission brightness of the subframe that emits the light where the dominant wavelength is the wavelength in the range of green changes periodically.

The display device according to claim 1 , wherein a frame where the subframes are configured in a forward sequence of red (R), green (G), red (R), blue (B), green (G), and red (R) or in a reverse sequence thereof and a frame where the subframes are configured in a forward sequence of blue (B), green (G), blue (B), red (R), green (G), and blue (B) or a reverse sequence thereof are alternately repeated in the one frame.

The display device according to claim 1 , wherein a frame where the subframes are configured in a forward sequence of red (R), green (G), red (R), blue (B), green (G), and red (R) or in a reverse sequence thereof and a frame where the subframes are configured in a forward sequence of blue (B), green (G), red (R), blue (B), green (G), and blue (B) or a reverse sequence thereof are alternately repeated in the one frame.

14 . The display panel according to claim 1 , wherein the display panel performs emission according to a gradation value by controlling a time of transmitting a light.

15 . The display panel according to claim 1 , wherein the display panel uses a micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) shutter that performs emission according to a gradation value by controlling a time of transmitting a light.

16 . The display panel according to claim 1 , wherein the display panel uses a digital mirror device (DMD) shutter that performs emission according to a gradation value by controlling a time of transmitting a light.

17 . The display panel according to claim 1 , wherein the display panel uses a liquid crystal shutter that transmits a light according to a gradation value by controlling a brightness of a transmitted light.

18 . An image display device according to claim 1 , wherein the light source uses a light-emitting diode (LED) and control of emission brightness is performed by flashing the LED.
