Abstract

A water spraying system includes an engine, a pump driven by the engine, the pump including a pump inlet configured to be fluidly coupled to a water source and a pump outlet providing water at an increased water pressure, a sprayer fluidly coupled to the pump outlet, the sprayer including a flow restriction valve, a trigger for operating the flow restriction valve, and a wireless transmitter configured to transmit a wireless start signal indicating release of the flow restriction valve, a wireless receiver, and a controller coupled to the wireless receiver, wherein the wireless receiver receives the wireless start signal from the wireless transmitter and in response the controller activates the pump by starting the engine.

Claims (43)

1. A water spraying system configured to be connected to a continuous water source, the water spraying system comprising:

an engine;

a pump selectively driven by the engine, the pump including a pump inlet configured to be fluidly coupled to the water source and a pump outlet;

a sprayer fluidly coupled to the pump outlet, the sprayer including a flow restriction valve, a trigger for operating the flow restriction valve, an opening through which water exits the sprayer, and a wireless transmitter configured to transmit a wireless start signal indicating release of the flow restriction valve;

a wireless receiver;

a manually operated on/off switch controlling operation of the pump; and

a controller in communication with the manually operated on/off switch and the wireless receiver,

wherein when the manually operated on/off switch is in an off position and the wireless receiver receives the wireless start signal from the wireless transmitter, the controller inhibits operation of the engine and a non-zero continuous flow of water is provided to the flow restriction valve, and

wherein when the manually operated on/off switch is in an on position and the wireless receiver receives the wireless start signal from the wireless transmitter, the controller activates the pump by starting the engine and water is provided to the flow restriction valve at an increased pressure.

2. The water spraying system of claim 1 , further comprising a switch coupled to the controller, wherein the controller actuates the switch to start the engine when the wireless receiver receives the wireless start signal from the wireless transmitter.

3. The water spraying system of claim 1 , wherein the sprayer includes a variable outlet and the opening is formed in the variable outlet, the variable outlet defines a high flow setting that is communicated wirelessly from the wireless transmitter to the wireless receiver.

4. The water spraying system of claim 3 , wherein when the manually operated on/off switch is in the on position and the high flow setting is communicated, the controller activates the pump by starting the engine and water is provided to the sprayer at the increased pressure.

5. The water spraying system of claim 1 , wherein the increased water pressure is at least 1400 psi.

6. A pressure washer, comprising:

an engine;

a pump selectively driven by the engine, the pump including a pump inlet configured to be fluidly coupled to a water source and a pump outlet providing water at an increased water pressure of at least 1400 psi when the pump is driven by the engine;

a sprayer fluidly coupled to the pump outlet, the sprayer including a flow restriction valve, a trigger for operating the flow restriction valve to start and stop a flow of water from the sprayer, and a wireless transmitter configured to transmit a wireless start signal indicating a flow above a threshold;

a wireless receiver;

a manually operated on/off switch controlling operation of the pump; and

a controller in communication with the manually operated on/off switch and the wireless receiver,

wherein when the manually operated on/off switch is in an off position and the wireless receiver receives the wireless start signal from the wireless transmitter, the controller inhibits operation of the engine and a non-zero continuous flow of water is provided to the flow restriction valve, and

wherein when the manually operated on/off switch is in an on position and the wireless receiver receives the wireless start signal from the wireless transmitter the controller activates the pump by starting the engine and water at an increased pressure is provided to the flow restriction valve.

7. The pressure washer of claim 6 , wherein the wireless transmitter is configured to transmit the wireless start signal when the trigger is actuated.

8. The pressure washer of claim 6 , further comprising a switch coupled to the controller, wherein the controller actuates the switch to start the engine when the wireless receiver receives the wireless start signal from the wireless transmitter.

9. The pressure washer of claim 6 , wherein the wireless transmitter is configured to transmit the wireless start signal when the flow restriction valve is opened.

10. The pressure washer of claim 6 , wherein the threshold is between about two gallons per minute and about four gallons per minute.

The pressure washer of claim 6 , wherein the controller recognizes a high flow setting, and when the manually operated on/off switch is in the on position and the high flow setting is recognized, the controller activates the pump by starting the engine and water is provided to the sprayer at the increased pressure.

12. The pressure washer of claim 11 , wherein the pump is only activated if the manually operated on/off switch is in the on position and the high flow setting is recognized.

13. A water spraying system, comprising:

a power source;

a pump selectively powered by the power source, the pump including a pump inlet configured to be fluidly coupled to a continuous water source and a pump outlet;

a sprayer fluidly coupled to the pump outlet, the sprayer including a flow restriction valve, a trigger for operating the flow restriction valve to start and stop a flow of water from the sprayer, an opening through which water exits the sprayer, and a wireless transmitter configured to transmit a wireless start signal indicating actuation of the trigger;

a wireless receiver; and

a controller coupled to the wireless receiver and recognizing a high flow setting,

wherein when the controller does not recognize the high flow setting and the wireless receiver receives the wireless start signal from the wireless transmitter, a non-zero continuous flow of water is provided to the flow restriction valve, and

wherein when the controller recognizes the high flow setting and the wireless receiver receives the wireless start signal from the wireless transmitter, the controller activates the pump and water at an increased pressure is provided to the flow restriction valve.

14. The water spraying system of claim 13 , wherein the wireless transmitter is configured to transmit the wireless start signal when a flow of water exceeds a threshold flow.

15. The water spraying system of claim 13 , wherein the wireless transmitter is configured to transmit the wireless start signal when the flow restriction valve is opened.

16. The water spraying system of claim 13 , wherein the power source comprises an engine.

17. The water spraying system of claim 13 , wherein the power source comprises an electric motor.

18. The water spraying system of claim 13 , further comprising a manually operated on/off switch inhibiting operation of the pump in an off position.

19. The water spraying system of claim 14 , wherein the threshold is between about two gallons per minute and about four gallons per minute.

20. The water spraying system of claim 13 , wherein the increased water pressure is at least 1400 psi.
