Abstract

A system for modifying a hypotube may include a hypotube holding subsystem, a hypotube collection subsystem, and a cooling subsystem. The hypotube holding subsystem may be configured to inhibit sag of a held hypotube. The hypotube collection subsystem may be configured to collect a hypotube after laser cutting. The cooling subsystem may include a valve configured to direct gas into the hypotube collection subsystem.

Claims (37)

1. A system for modifying a hypotube, the system comprising:

a hypotube holding subsystem comprising:

a bushing,

a plurality of collets, and

a hypotube clamp configured to longitudinally advance a hypotube,

the bushing, the plurality of collets, and the hypotube clamp aligned at a height, above a floor on which the system rests, and

the bushing and plurality of collets arranged to inhibit sag of a hypotube to be less than 3% of the height;

a spiral hypotube collector configured to wind a hypotube after laser cutting; and

a cooling subsystem configured to flow gas at a temperature between 20° C. and 25° C. into the spiral hypotube collector,

the cooling subsystem comprising a valve configured to regulate gas flow from the cooling system into the spiral hypotube collector.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the cooling subsystem is further configured to flow gas into a laser nozzle and toward a hypotube being cut by a focused laser beam, and wherein the cooling subsystem further comprises a second valve configured to regulate gas flow from the cooling subsystem into the laser nozzle.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the gas comprises ambient air or inert gas.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the system is configured to inhibit forming fissures in the hypotube.

5. A system for modifying a hypotube, the system comprising:

a hypotube holding subsystem configured to inhibit sag of a held hypotube;

a hypotube collection subsystem configured to collect a hypotube after laser cutting; and

a cooling subsystem comprising a valve configured to direct gas into the hypotube collection subsystem, and a second valve configured to direct gas into a laser nozzle and towards a hypotube being cut by a focused laser beam.

6. The system of claim 5 , wherein the cooling subsystem comprises an inert gas source.

7. The system of claim 5 , wherein the gas comprises ambient air.

8. The system of claim 5 , wherein the gas is at a temperature between 20° C. and 25° C.

9. The system of claim 5 , wherein the hypotube collection subsystem comprises a spiral hypotube collector configured to wind a hypotube after laser cutting.

10. The system of claim 5 , wherein the hypotube holding subsystem comprises:

a bushing,

a plurality of collets, and

a hypotube clamp configured to longitudinally advance a hypotube.

11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the bushing, the plurality of collets, and the hypotube clamp are aligned at a height above a floor on which the system rests, and wherein the bushing and plurality of collets are arranged to inhibit sag of a hypotube to be less than 3% of the height.

12. The system of claim 10 , wherein the cooling subsystem is configured to reduce a heat affected zone.

13. The system of claim 10 , wherein the system is configured to inhibit forming fissures in the hypotube.

14. A system for modifying a hypotube, the system comprising:

a cooling subsystem comprising:

a first valve configured to direct gas into a spiral hypotube collector configured to wind a hypotube after laser cutting, and

a second valve configured to direct gas into a laser nozzle and towards a hypotube being cut by a focused laser beam.

15. The system of claim 14 , wherein the cooling subsystem comprises an inert gas source.

16. The system of claim 14 , wherein the gas comprises air at a temperature between 20° C. and 25° C.

17. The system of claim 14 , further comprising the spiral hypotube collector.

18. The system of claim 14 , wherein the cooling subsystem is configured to reduce a heat affected zone.

19. The system of claim 14 , wherein the system is configured to inhibit forming fissures in the hypotube.
