SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR TRACKING OCCLUDED OBJECTS IN THREE-DIMENSIONAL SPACE
Methods and systems for the tracking of one or more occluded objects in 3D space include creating an approximation of an object while it is occluded.
1 . A machine implemented method for tracking occluded objects, comprising:
determining that a first object has been occluded by, has been touched by, or has overlapped a second object;
determining, from two or more images of the first object, an approximation defining an outline of at least a portion of the first object; and
using the approximation until the first object is no longer occluded.
2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
reconstructing a model based at least in part on a plurality of cross-sectional slices determined from the two or more images when the first object is no longer occluded.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first object is a user's hand.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the approximation is an average outline of the first object determined from the two or more images.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the approximation is a shape fit to the first object.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the shape is based on information derived from the two or more images.
7 . A non-transitory machine readable medium, storing one or more instructions which when executed by one or more processors cause the one or more processors to perform the following:
determining that a first object has been occluded by, has been touched by, or has overlapped a second object;
determining, from two or more images of the first object, an approximation defining an outline of at least a portion of the first object; and
using the approximation until the first object is no longer occluded.
8 . The medium of claim 7 , further comprising reconstructing a model based at least in part on a plurality of cross-sectional slices determined from the two or more images when the first object is no longer occluded.
9 . The medium of claim 7 , wherein the first object is a user's hand.
10 . The medium of claim 7 , wherein the approximation is an average outline of the first object determined from the two or more images.
11 . The medium of claim 7 , wherein the approximation is a shape fit to the first object.
12 . The medium of claim 7 , wherein the shape is based on information derived from the two or more images.
