Abstract

A housing including a plurality of openings for receiving fiber optic connectors and protecting the polished end face of the connectors from damage while the connectors are stored within a telecommunications connection cabinet. A module with a plurality of optical fiber cables connected to a first optical fiber cable and terminated by a fiber optic connector. Each of the connectors are inserted within openings in a connector holder for storage and protection until the cables need to be connected to a customer equipment cable.

Claims (27)

1. A fiber optic connector holder arrangement comprising:

a connector holder including a molded body extending along a first axis that extends between a first end of the molded body and an opposite second end of the molded body, the molded body defining a single row of closed-ended receptacles, the single row extending along the first axis so that each closed-ended receptacle is disposed along the first axis;

a first retention portion integral with the first end of the molded body;

a second retention portion integral with the second end of the molded body; and

a plurality of fiber optic connectors held by the connector holder, each of the fiber optic connectors including a polished end face that is removably disposed within one of the closed-ended receptacles.

2. The fiber optic connector holder arrangement of claim 1 , wherein the first retention portion includes a latch member.

3. The fiber optic connector holder arrangement of claim 1 , wherein the connector holder aligns each of the fiber optic connectors to extend in parallel.

4. The fiber optic connector holder arrangement of claim 1 , wherein the connector holder holds eight fiber optic connectors.

5. The fiber optic connector holder arrangement of claim 1 , wherein the connector holder is a stand-alone component not integrated with an optical splitter module.

6. The fiber optic connector holder arrangement of claim 1 , wherein the connector holder does not include connecting structure to optically couple together two fiber optic connectors.

7. The fiber optic connector holder arrangement of claim 1 , further comprising a panel at which the connector holder is disposed, wherein each fiber optic connector extends orthogonal to the panel.

8. A telecommunications cabinet comprising:

a cabinet housing defining an interior;

a splitter region disposed with the interior of the cabinet housing;

an optical splitter disposed at the splitter region;

a storage region disposed within the interior of the cabinet housing at a location spaced from the splitter region; and

a connector holder disposed at the storage region, the connector holder including a molded body separate from the optical splitter, the molded body defining a plurality of closed-ended receptacles, the connector holder also including a flexible latch for securing the connector holder at the storage region.

9. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 8 , wherein the flexible latch is located at a first end of the molded body of the connector holder.

10. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 8 , wherein the flexible latch is unitary with the molded body of the connector holder.

11. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 8 , wherein the flexible latch includes a cantilevered finger tab.

12. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 8 , further comprising a plurality of connector holders disposed at the storage region, the plurality of connector holders including the connector holder, each connector holder of the plurality including a molded body defining a plurality of closed-ended receptacles.

13. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 12 , wherein the molded bodies of the connector holders are disposed in parallel at the storage region.

14. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 8 , further comprising a plurality of fiber optic connectors held by the connector holder so that polished end faces of the fiber optic connectors are protected within the closed-ended receptacles.

15. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 14 , wherein bodies of the fiber optic connectors are horizontal when the connector holder is disposed at the storage region.

16. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 14 , wherein the connector holder is populated with the fiber optic connectors before being disposed at the storage region.

17. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 8 , further comprising a plurality of fiber optic connectors held by the connector holder, the fiber optic connectors including ferrules supporting optical fibers, the ferrules being protected within the closed-ended receptacles.

18. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 8 , wherein the optical splitter is configured to split an optical signal carried by an input fiber onto a plurality of output fibers having connectorized ends.
