Abstract

Methods of MDT information logging and reporting are provided. In one embodiment, a method is provided to resolve shortcomings of prior art by correlating UL measurements with QoS information to enable UL performance analysis and accurate detection of coverage problems. In another embodiment, a method is provided to resolve the shortcomings of the prior art by making DL measurements and location information collecting or logging conditional on UL measurements.

Claims (28)

1. A method comprising:

detecting an availability of an uplink (UL) measurement result by a user equipment (UE) in a wireless network;

triggering a location-related performance and a downlink-related performance upon the detection of the availability of the UL measurement result;

obtaining the uplink measurement result, a location-related measurement result and a downlink measurement result based on the location-related performance and the downlink-related performance; and

correlating the location-related measurement result, the downlink measurement result and the uplink measurement results for a performance test for the UE.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the location-related performance is a location-related measurement and the downlink-related performance is a downlink measurement are performed or recorded when the uplink measurement result becomes available.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the location-related performance is to log one or more location-related measurement result into a log and the downlink-related performance is to log one or more downlink measurement result into the log.

4. The method of claim 3 , further comprising:

transmitting the log to a network device.

5. A method comprising:

detecting an availability of a first uplink (UL) measurement result applicable to a user equipment (UE), by a network device in a wireless network;

performing a location-related performance and a downlink-related performance based on the availability of the first UL measurement result;

performing a second uplink measurement applicable to the UE and thereby generating a second uplink measurement result upon detecting the availability of the first UL measurement result;

obtaining a location-related measurement result, downlink measurement result, and the first uplink measurement result; and

correlating the location-related measurement result, the downlink measurement result, the first uplink measurement result, and the second uplink measurement result for a performance test for the UE.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the first UL measurement result is not detected and the location-related performance is to discards one or more location-related measurement result and the downlink-related performance is to discard one or more downlink measurement result non-relevant to uplink in a logging process.

7. The method of claim 5 , wherein the correlation is triggered when the first uplink measurement result becomes available.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the network receives the location-related measurement result from the UE when the first uplink measurement result becomes available.

9. The method of claim 5 , wherein the correlation is triggered when an UL/DL transmission is available or when it becomes known to the network that data is present in a transmission or re-transmission buffer.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the network receives the location-related measurement result from the UE when the UL/DL transmission is performed.

11. A user equipment (UE) comprising:

a radio frequency transceiver that transmits uplink signals and receives downlink signal;

a measurement module that detecting an availability of an uplink (UL) measurement result triggers a location-related performance and a downlink-related performance upon the detection of the availability of the UL measurement result, obtains location-related measurement result, downlink measurement result, and the uplink measurement result; and

a correlator that correlates the location-related measurement result, the downlink measurement result and the uplink measurement result for a performance test for the UE.

12. The UE of claim 11 , wherein the location-related performance is a location-related measurement and the downlink-related performance is a downlink measurement.

13. The UE of claim 11 , wherein the location-related performance is to log one or more location-related measurement result into a log, and the downlink-related performance is to log one or more downlink measurement result into the log.

14. The UE of claim 13 , further comprising:

a transmitter that transmits the log to a network device.
