Abstract

The present invention provides carbonate prodrugs which comprise a carbonic phosphoric anhydride prodrug moiety attached to the hydroxyl or carboxyl group of a parent drug moiety. The prodrugs may provide improved physicochemical properties over the parent drug. Also provided are methods of treating a disease or condition that is responsive to the parent drug using the carbonate prodrugs, as well as kits and unit dosages.

Claims (13)

1. A method of treating a disease or condition that is responsive to acetaminophen, comprising administering to an individual an effective amount of the prodrug:

or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof or solvate of the foregoing.

2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein disease or condition is selected from the group consisting of pain, fever, inflammation, ischemic injury, and neuronal injury.

3. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the prodrug is administered parenterally.

4. The method according to claim 3 , wherein the prodrug is administered intravenously.

5. The method according to claim 3 , wherein the prodrug is administered intramuscularly.

6. The method according to claim 3 , wherein the prodrug is administered subcutaneously.

7. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the dosage of the prodrug is about 300 mg to about 2.6 g.

8. The method according to claim 7 , wherein the dosage of the prodrug is about 1.3 g to about 1.9 g.

9. The method according to claim 7 , wherein the volume of the dosage is about 1 mL to about 25 mL.

10. The method according to claim 9 , wherein the volume of the dosage is about 10 mL to about 20 mL.

11. The method according to claim 9 , wherein the volume of the dosage is about 1 mL to about 10 mL.

12. The method according to claim 9 , wherein the volume of the dosage is about 5 mL to about 10 mL.
