Abstract

A method for encoding a packet in a broadcasting system supporting an Internet Protocol (IP)-based multimedia service is provided. The method includes dividing a data stream into data payloads, generating a Motion Picture Expert Group (MPEG) Media Transport (MMT) packet by adding a first header to each of the data payloads, and generating a source packet by adding an MMT packet header to the MMT packet and performing Forward Error Correction (FEC) encoding on the header-added MMT packet. The MMT packet header includes type information of the MMT packet.

Claims (37)

1. A method for transmitting a transport packet in a communication system, the method comprising:

generating repair data from source data by using a forward error correction (FEC) scheme, the repair data including at least one repair symbol;

generating a plurality of transport packets by using the source data and the repair data; and

transmitting the transport packet,

wherein the transport packet includes a transport packet header and the transport packet header includes FEC type information indicating one of types of FEC scheme for the transport packet,

wherein the types of the FEC scheme includes a first type in which the transport packet is a first transport packet not including a source payload ID, a second type in which the transport packet is a second transport packet including the source payload ID and a third type in which the transport packet is a third transport packet for repair data, and

wherein if a type of the FEC scheme indicated by the FEC type information is the first type, the first transport packet is a transport packet to which the FEC scheme is not applied or a transport packet to which the FEC scheme is applied without adding the source payload ID.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the source payload ID includes a sequence number identifying source symbols included in the source block.

3. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed, cause at least one processor to perform the method of claim 1 .

4. An apparatus for transmitting a transport packet in a communication system, the apparatus comprising:

a controller configured to:

generate repair data from source data by using a forward error correction (FEC) scheme, the repair data including at least one repair symbol, and

generate a plurality of transport packets by using the source data and the repair data; and

a transmitter configured to transmit the transport packet,

wherein the transport packet includes a transport packet header and the transport packet header includes FEC type information indicating one of types of FEC scheme for the transport packet,

wherein the types of the FEC scheme includes a first type in which the transport packet is a first transport packet not including a source payload ID, a second type in which the transport packet is a second transport packet including the source payload ID and a third type in which the transport packet is a third transport packet for repair data, and

wherein if a type of the FEC scheme indicated by the FEC type information is the first type, the first transport packet is a transport packet to which the FEC scheme is not applied or a transport packet to which the FEC scheme is applied without adding the source payload ID.

5. The apparatus of claim 4 , wherein the source payload ID includes a sequence number identifying source symbols included in the source block.

6. A method for receiving a transport packet in a communication system, the method comprising:

receiving a transport packet from a transmitter, the transport packet being generated by:

generating repair data from source data by using a forward error correction (FEC) scheme, the repair data including at least one repair symbol,

generating a plurality of transport packets by using the source data and the repair data, and

decoding the transport packet,

wherein the transport packet includes a transport packet header and the transport packet header includes FEC type information indicating one of types of FEC scheme for the transport packet,

wherein the types of the FEC scheme includes a first type in which the transport packet is a first transport packet not including a source payload ID, a second type in which the transport packet is a second transport packet including the source payload ID and a third type in which the transport packet is a third transport packet for repair data, and

wherein if a type of the FEC scheme indicated by the FEC type information is the first type, the first transport packet is a transport packet to which the FEC scheme is not applied or a transport packet to which the FEC scheme is applied without adding the source payload ID.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the source payload ID includes a sequence number identifying source symbols included in the source block.

8. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed, cause at least one processor to perform the method of claim 6 .

9. An apparatus for receiving a transport packet in a communication system, the apparatus comprising:

a receiver configured to receive a transport packet from a transmitter, the transport packet being generated by:

generating repair data from source data by using a forward error correction (FEC) scheme, the repair data including at least one repair symbol, and

generating a plurality of transport packets by using the source data and the repair data; and

a decoder configured to decode the transport packet,

wherein the transport packet includes a transport packet header and the transport packet header includes FEC type information indicating one of types of FEC scheme for the transport packet,

wherein the types of the FEC scheme includes a first type in which the transport packet is a first transport packet not including a source payload ID, a second type in which the transport packet is a second transport packet including the source payload ID and a third type in which the transport packet is a third transport packet for repair data, and

wherein if a type of the FEC scheme indicated by the FEC type information is the first type, the first transport packet is a transport packet to which the FEC scheme is not applied or a transport packet to which the FEC scheme is applied without adding the source payload ID.

10. The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the source payload ID includes a sequence number identifying source symbols included in the source block.
