Abstract

Method and system for treating a patient using an inflatable device. A removal device may be used to remove the inflatable device from the body. The removal device can have at least one manually-actuatable member and at least two opposing jaws at a distal end. At least one of the at least two jaws can be movable by actuation of the at least one manually-actuatable member. At least one of the at least two jaws can have a puncturing member.

Claims (31)

1. A removal device having a distal end and proximal end, the removal device comprising:

(a) at least one manually-actuatable member; and

(b) at least two opposing jaws at the distal end, at least one of the at least two jaws being movable by actuation of the at least one manually-actuatable member, wherein each of the jaws comprises a row of teeth, the rows of teeth being complementarily shaped but defining a space therebetween when the jaws are closed, at least one of the at least two jaws comprises a puncturing member;

wherein a distance between a tip of the puncturing member and a tip of a most adjacent tooth is equal to or greater than the difference in distance between a height of the puncturing member and a height of the adjacent most tooth;

wherein the puncturing member has an opening that extends from the tip down the entire height of the puncturing member that is exposed.

2. The removal device of claim 1 , wherein the puncturing member comprises a cannulated needle.

3. The removal device of claim 2 , wherein the opening is a sharp exposed opening orientated towards the distal end and not towards the proximal end of the device.

4. The removal device of claim 1 , wherein the opening is a sharp exposed opening orientated towards the distal end and not towards the proximal end of the device.

5. The removal device of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the at least two jaws comprises an opening adapted to receive the puncturing member when the at least two jaws are closed.

6. The removal device of claim 1 , wherein at least some of the teeth are triangular, rectangular, or sinusoidal in side profile.

7. The removal device of claim 1 , further comprising a cystoscope, the cystoscope positioned proximally from the at least two jaws to enable observation of the at least two jaws, the cystoscope being a wide angle cystoscope.

8. The removal device of claim 7 , wherein the wide angle cystoscope has a field of view of 30-150 degrees, 90-135 degrees, or 105-135 degrees.

9. The removal device claim 1 , wherein the jaws open to an angle of between 20-150 degrees.

10. A removal device having a distal end and proximal end, the removal device comprising:

(a) at least one manually-actuatable member; and

(b) at least two opposing jaws at the distal end, the at least two jaws being movable by actuation of the at least one manually-actuatable member, wherein each of the jaws comprises a row of teeth, at least some of the teeth of the rows of teeth being complementarily shaped when the jaws are closed, at least one of the at least two jaws comprises a puncturing member;

wherein the puncturing member has an opening that extends from a tip down the entire height of the puncturing member that is exposed.

11. The removal device of claim 10 , wherein opening is a sharp exposed opening orientated towards the distal end and not towards the proximal end of the device.

12. The removal device of claim 11 , wherein a distance between the tip of the puncturing member and a tip of a most adjacent tooth is equal to or greater than the difference in distance between the height of the puncturing member and a height of the adjacent most tooth.

13. The removal device of claim 10 , wherein a distance between the tip of the puncturing member and a tip of a most adjacent tooth is equal to or greater than the difference in distance between the height of the puncturing member and a height of the adjacent most tooth.

14. The removal device of claim 10 , wherein the puncturing member comprises a cannulated needle.

15. The removal device of claim 10 , wherein each of the at least two jaws comprises a puncturing member and an opening, the opening of each of the at least two jaws being adapted to receive the puncturing member of another of the at least two jaws when the at least two jaws are closed, each puncturing member comprising a cannulated needle.

16. A removal device having a distal end and proximal end, the removal device comprising:

(a) at least one manually-actuatable member; and

(b) at least two opposing jaws at the distal end, at least one of the at least two jaws being movable by actuation of the at least one manually-actuatable member, wherein each of the jaws comprises a row of teeth, the rows of teeth being complementarily shaped but defining a space therebetween when the jaws are closed, at least one of the at least two jaws comprises a puncturing member;

wherein a distance between a tip of the puncturing member and a tip of a most adjacent tooth is equal to or greater than the difference in distance between a height of the puncturing member and a height of the adjacent most tooth;

wherein each of the at least two jaws comprises a puncturing member and an opening, the opening of each of the at least two jaws being adapted to receive the puncturing member of another of the at least two jaws when the at least two jaws are closed, each puncturing member comprising a cannulated needle.

17. The removal device of claim 16 , wherein the puncturing member has an opening that extends from the tip down the entire height of the puncturing member that is exposed.

18. The removal device of claim 17 , wherein the opening of the puncturing member is a sharp exposed opening orientated towards the distal end and not towards the proximal end of the device.

19. The removal device of claim 16 , wherein one or more of the teeth are triangular, rectangular, or sinusoidal in side profile.

20. The removal device of claim 16 , further comprising a cystoscope, the cystoscope positioned proximally from the at least two jaws to enable observation of the at least two jaws, the cystoscope being a wide angle cystoscope.
