Abstract

Methods are disclosed for improving communications on feedback transmission channels, in which there is a possibility of bit errors. The basic solutions to counter those errors are: proper design of the CSI vector quantizer indexing (i.e., the bit representation of centroid indices) in order to minimize impact of index errors, use of error detection techniques to expurgate the erroneous indices and use of other methods to recover correct indices.

Claims (26)

1. A wireless receiving device comprising:

at least one processing device configured to provide a plurality of indices for a plurality of channel states; wherein the plurality of channel states corresponds to multiple input multiple output (MIMO) precoding information;

the at least one processing device further configured to produce one encoded sequence representative of the provided plurality of indices; and

a transmitter configured to transmit the one encoded sequence to a wireless transmission device.

2. The wireless receiving device of claim 1 , wherein the MIMO precoding information is associated with a codebook.

3. The wireless receiving device of claim 2 , wherein the codebook has a Hamming distance that reduces an effect of feedback error on the indices.

4. The wireless receiving device of claim 1 , wherein a number of symbols in the one encoded sequence is based on a number of available bits on a feedback channel.

5. The wireless receiving device of claim 1 , wherein the one encoded sequence is selected from a plurality of encoded sequences associated with the plurality of channel states.

6. The wireless receiving device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one processing device is further configured to estimate a channel matrix for a feedforward channel.

7. The wireless receiving device of claim 1 , further comprising multiple receive antennas configured to receive signals on at least one feedforward channel from the wireless transmission device.

8. The wireless receiving device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one processing device is further configured to select indices representing centroids of channel vectors associated with the channel states.

9. The wireless receiving device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one processing device is further configured to add channel error detection check bits to the one encoded sequence.

10. The wireless receiving device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one processing device is further configured to add channel error correction check bits to the one encoded sequence.

11. A method for wireless communication, the method comprising:

providing a plurality of indices for a plurality of channel states; wherein the plurality of channel states corresponds to multiple input multiple output (MIMO) precoding information;

producing one encoded sequence representative of the provided plurality of indices; and

transmitting the one encoded sequence to a wireless transmission device.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the MIMO precoding information is associated with a codebook.

13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the codebook has a Hamming distance that reduces an effect of feedback error on the indices.

14. The method of claim 11 , wherein a number of symbols in the one encoded sequence is based on a number of available bits on a feedback channel.

15. The method of claim 11 , wherein the one encoded sequence is selected from a plurality of encoded sequences associated with the plurality of channel states.

16. The method of claim 11 , further comprising estimating a channel matrix for a feedforward channel.

17. The method of claim 11 , further comprising receiving signals from the wireless transmission device on at least one feedforward channel using multiple receive antennas.

18. The method of claim 11 , further comprising selecting indices representing centroids of channel vectors associated with the channel states.

19. The method of claim 11 , further comprising adding channel error detection check bits to the one encoded sequence.

20. The method of claim 11 , further comprising adding channel error correction check bits to the one encoded sequence.
