Abstract

Wearable apparatus for monitoring various physiological and environmental factors are provided. Real-time, noninvasive health and environmental monitors include a plurality of compact sensors integrated within small, low-profile devices, such as earpiece modules. Physiological and environmental data is collected and wirelessly transmitted into a wireless network, where the data is stored and/or processed.

Claims (16)

1. An apparatus adapted to be worn by a subject, the apparatus comprising:

at least one physiological sensor configured to sense physiological information from the subject;

at least one environmental sensor configured to sense environmental information in a vicinity of the subject;

at least one processor coupled to the at least one physiological sensor and the at least one environmental sensor, wherein the at least one processor is configured to process the physiological information and the environmental information, and further configured to:

determine, from the physiological information, that the subject is experiencing a physical strain,

identify, from the environmental information, an environmental stressor, and

determine whether the environmental stressor is a source of the physical strain experienced by the subject;

at least one transmitter responsive to the processor that is configured to transmit physical strain information indicating the physical strain and environmental stress information indicating the environmental stressor to a remote device and/or portable telecommunication device; and

a speaker, wherein the at least one processor is further configured to communicate biofeedback information to the subject via the speaker in response to determining that the environmental stressor is a source of the physical strain experienced by the subject, wherein the biofeedback information is configured to address the physical strain experienced by the subject.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to process the physiological information and environmental information over time to enable a time-dependent analysis of the health of the subject and environment and/or a comparison between the health of the subject and an environment of the subject.

3. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the apparatus is a headset.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising a location sensor, wherein the at least one processor is further configured to pinpoint a geographic location at which the physical strain experienced by the subject occurred and/or to pinpoint a geographic location of the environmental stressor, wherein the location sensor comprises a GPS receiver.

5. The apparatus of claim 2 , further comprising a visual display, and wherein the at least one processor is configured to display information via the visual display.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the at least one environmental sensor is configured to detect and/or measure noise pollution.

7. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the at least one environmental sensor is configured to detect and/or measure human voices.

8. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the at least one environmental sensor is configured to detect and/or measure one or more of the following: humidity, temperature, barometric pressure, airborne pollution, and volatile organic chemicals (VOCs).
