Modular Emulsion-Based Product Differentiation
A micro-scale heterogeneous emulsion is provided. In some examples, the micro-scale heterogeneous emulsion can include at least two internal phases and an external phase. A method of producing a micro-scale heterogeneous emulsion is also disclosed herein. A method of providing a stable, custom cosmetic composition is also disclosed herein.
1 . A method of providing a stable, custom cosmetic composition, the method comprising:
providing a consumer a plurality of active options;
instructing a consumer to select one or more actives from the plurality of active options; and
providing the consumer a stable, custom cosmetic composition comprising a micro-scale heterogeneous emulsion, the micro-scale heterogeneous emulsion comprising the consumer's selected one or more actives.
2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
providing the consumer a plurality of fragrance options;
instructing the consumer to select a fragrance from the plurality of fragrance options; and
providing the consumer the stable, custom cosmetic composition comprising the micro-scale heterogeneous emulsion, the micro-scale heterogeneous emulsion further comprising the fragrance.
3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
providing the consumer a plurality of color options;
instructing the consumer to select a color; and
providing the consumer the stable, custom cosmetic composition comprising the micro-scale heterogeneous emulsion, the micro-scale heterogeneous emulsion further comprising the color.
4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
providing the consumer a plurality of fragrance options and a plurality of color options;
instructing the consumer to select a fragrance from the plurality of fragrance options and a color from the plurality of color options; and
providing the consumer the stable, custom cosmetic composition comprising the micro-scale heterogeneous emulsion, the micro-scale heterogeneous emulsion further comprising the color and the fragrance.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the micro-scale heterogeneous emulsion further comprises:
an external phase;
a first internal phase comprising the one or more actives; and
a second internal phase.
6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the external phase comprises a silicone.
7 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the external phase further comprises a surfactant.
8 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the second internal phase comprises a structurant.
9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the structurant comprises a wax.
10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the micro-scale heterogeneous emulsion is formed by combining a functional emulsion and a base emulsion.
11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the micro-scale heterogeneous emulsion is formed by combining a base emulsion, a functional emulsion, and a dispersion.
12 . The method of claim 10 or 11 , wherein the combining step involves a step of low shear mixing.
13 . The method of claim 10 or 11 , wherein the base emulsion is prepared with a step involving high shear mixing.
14 . The method of claim 10 or 11 , wherein the functional emulsion is prepared with a step with high shear mixing.
15 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the dispersion comprises a material selected from the group consisting of a colorant, a fragrance, and combinations thereof.
16 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the stable, custom cosmetic composition is selected from the group consisting of a foundation, powder, concealer, blush, make-up remover, hair remover, facial hair remover, bronzer, mascara, eye shadow, eye liner, lip gloss, lip color, lip liner, nail polish, skin cream, facial cream, facial cleanser, sunscreen lotion, body lotion, shaving gel, shaving foam, shaving cream, conditioner, and an aftershave.
17 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising
providing the consumer a plurality of packaging options;
instructing the consumer to select a package from the plurality of packaging options; and
providing the package and the stable, custom cosmetic composition comprising the micro-scale heterogeneous emulsion.
