Method for treating a neurological disorder associated with hypoxia using a small moleucule MIF inhibitor
View Patent ↗Methods are provided for treating pathologies associated with hypoxia with an MIF inhibitor. Methods are also provided for treating a subject having, or at risk for pulmonary hypertension, with an MIF inhibitor. Methods are also provided for reating a subject having, or at risk from, a CNS disorder associated with hypoxia, with an MIF inhibitor. Methods are also provided of treating severe chronic lung disease, hypoxia-induced right ventricular hypertrophy or hypoxia-induced pulmonary vascular remodeling with an MIF inhibitor. Methods of diagnosing a subject with pulmonary hypertension are also provided.
1. A method for treating a neurological disorder associated with hypoxia, or a mental disorder associated with hypoxia, in a subject comprising administering to the subject an amount of a small molecule macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) inhibitor effective to treat the neurological or mental disorder.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the disorder associated with hypoxia is mental.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the disorder associated with hypoxia is neurological.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the disorder is a cognitive dysfunction.
5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the disorder is anxiety.
6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the disorder is depression.
7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the disorder is memory deficit.
8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the MIF inhibitor is administered so as to cross the blood brain barrier of the subject.
9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the MIF inhibitor is administered inhalationally.
10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the MIF inhibitor is administered orally.
11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the MIF inhibitor is administered intravenously.
12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the MIF inhibitor has the structure:
