Abstract

Methods for decoding a video bitstream. One of the methods includes receiving a respective buffer description for each of one or more decoded reference pictures from the video bitstream; wherein the respective buffer descriptions include a poc cycle parameter for one or more long term reference pictures in the one or more decoded reference pictures, and wherein the poc cycle parameter is used to calculate a picture order count (POC) for the decoded long term reference pictures; identifying one or more decoded reference pictures for a current picture from a decoded picture buffer, based on the POC for the decoded long term reference pictures; decoding the current picture using inter-frame prediction based on the identified one or more decoded reference pictures; and buffering the decoded picture in the decoded picture buffer.

Claims (19)

1. A method for decoding a video bitstream comprising:

receiving a respective buffer description for each of one or more decoded reference pictures from the video bitstream;

wherein the respective buffer descriptions include a poc cycle parameter for one or more long term reference pictures in the one or more decoded reference pictures, and

wherein the poc cycle parameter is used to calculate a picture order count (POC) for the decoded long term reference pictures;

identifying one or more decoded reference pictures for a current picture from a decoded picture buffer, based on the POC for the decoded long term reference pictures;

decoding the current picture using inter-frame prediction based on the identified one or more decoded reference pictures; and

buffering the decoded picture in the decoded picture buffer.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the poc cycle parameter is an indicator to start another poc cycle.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the poc cycle parameter is in a slice header.

4. An electronic device configured for decoding a video bitstream, comprising:

a processor configured to:

receive a respective buffer description for each of one or more decoded reference pictures from the video bitstream; wherein

the buffer descriptions include a poc cycle parameter for one or more long term reference pictures in the one or more decoded reference pictures, and

the poc cycle parameter is used to calculate a picture order count (POC) for the decoded long term reference pictures;

identify one or more decoded reference pictures for a current picture from a decoded picture buffer, based on the POC for the decoded long term reference pictures;

decode the current picture using inter-frame prediction based on the identified one or more decoded reference pictures; and

buffer said decoded picture in the decoded picture buffer.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the poc cycle parameter indicates a decoded picture set to which the one or more long term reference pictures belong.

6. The device of claim 4 , wherein the poc cycle parameter indicates a decoded picture set to which the one or more long term reference pictures belong.
