Abstract

Systems and methods for recording multiple channels of incoming data. A system and method can receive data streams from a number of sources and distribute the data streams to a number of users. The plurality of data streams are stored in a storage device for later redistribution.

Claims (40)

1. A system for routing and recording multiple channels of incoming data, the system comprising:

a server including:

a terminal interface card that receives data streams from a plurality of sources;

a duplication subsystem that creates an independent copy of each of the data streams in real-time as the data streams are being received;

a system configuration retrieval system that retrieves recording mixer settings from a plurality of workstations, wherein the recorder mixer settings comprise audio level settings associated with each of the received data streams used for mixing the received data streams together; and

a mixing subsystem that create a mixed data stream by mixing together the received data streams according to the recording mixer settings associated with a predetermined one of the plurality of workstations, wherein the terminal interface then routes the mixed data stream to the predetermined workstation for real-time listening by a user; and

a storage subsystem that:

receives the independent copies and the mixer settings associated with each of the plurality of workstations, and

stores in a non-volatile memory the independent copies and the recorder mixer settings such that the recorder mixer settings and the independent copies can be used at a later time to recreate and play back the mixed data stream as previously heard by the user in real-time.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the storing of the independent copies avoids superfluous copies of the data streams.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the recorder mixer settings are used by a playback subsystem such that the independent copies are played back in accordance with what the user of the predetermined one of the workstations previously heard in real-time.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the server creates a transient copy of the independent copy which is compressed and forwarded to the storage subsystem.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of workstations individually stores its own unique recorder mixer settings.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein plural mixed streams are distributed to the predetermined one of the plurality of workstations.

7. A method for routing and recording multiple channels of incoming data, the method comprising:

receiving data streams from a plurality of sources;

creating an independent copy of each of the data streams in real time as the data streams are being received;

receiving recording mixer settings from a plurality of workstations, wherein the recorder mixer settings comprise audio level settings associated with each of the received data streams for mixing the received data streams together;

creating a mixed data stream by mixing together the received data streams according to the recording mixer settings associated with a predetermined one of the plurality of workstations;

routing the mixed data stream to the predetermined workstation for real-time listening by a user;

storing in a non-volatile memory the independent copies and the recorder mixer settings such that the recorder mixer settings and the independent copies can be used at a later time to recreate and play back the mixed data stream as previously heard by the user in real-time.

8. The method of claim 7 , further comprising storing the independent copies to avoid superfluous copies of the data streams.

9. The method of claim 7 , further comprising applying the mixed recorder settings to the independent copies to playback what a user of the predetermined one of the workstations previously heard in real-time.

10. The method of claim 7 , further comprising creating a transient copy of the independent copy that is compressed and forwarded to the storage subsystem.

11. The method of claim 7 , further comprising storing unique mixed recorder settings at each of the plurality of workstations.

12. The method of claim 7 , further comprising distributing plural mixed streams to the predetermined one of the plurality of workstations.

13. A system for routing and recording multiple channels of incoming data, the system comprising:

a processor; and

a memory coupled to the processor, the memory storing instructions which when executed by the processor cause the system to perform a method comprising:

receiving data streams from a plurality of sources;

creating an independent copy of each of the data streams in real time as the data streams are being received;

receiving recording mixer settings from a plurality of workstations, wherein the recorder mixer settings comprise audio level settings associated with each of the received data streams for mixing the received data streams together;

creating a mixed data stream by mixing together the received data streams according to the recording mixer settings associated with a predetermined one of the plurality of workstations;

routing the mixed data stream to the predetermined workstation for real-time listening by a user; and

storing in a non-volatile memory the independent copies and the recorder mixer settings such that the recorder mixer settings and the independent copies can be used at a later time to recreate and play back the mixed data stream as previously heard by the user in real-time.

14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the memory further comprises instructions which when executed by the processor cause the system to store the independent copies to avoid superfluous copies of the data streams.

15. The system of claim 13 , wherein the memory further comprises instructions which when executed by the processor cause the system to apply the mixed recorder settings to the independent copy to playback what a user of the predetermined one of the workstations previously heard in real-time.

16. The system of claim 1 , wherein the system does not include a computer-telephony integration (CTI) link.

17. The method of claim 7 , wherein the method does not employ a computer-telephony integration (CTI) link.

18. The system of claim 13 , wherein the system does not include a computer-telephony integration (CTI) link.
