Abstract

A reduced pressure delivery system for applying a reduced pressure to a tissue site includes a manifold delivery tube having a passageway and a distal end, the distal end configured to be percutaneously inserted and placed adjacent the tissue site. A flowable material is provided and is percutaneously deliverable through the manifold delivery tube to the tissue site. The flowable material is capable of filling a void adjacent the tissue site to create a manifold having a plurality of flow channels in fluid communication with the tissue site. A reduced pressure delivery tube is provided that is capable of fluid communication with the flow channels of the manifold.

15 . A reduced-pressure delivery system, comprising:

a manifold delivery tube having a passageway and configured to be percutaneously inserted and placed adjacent a tissue site;

a flowable material percutaneously deliverable through the manifold delivery tube, the flowable material capable of filling a void adjacent to the tissue site to create a manifold having a plurality of flow channels; and

a reduced-pressure delivery tube adapted to be in fluid communication with the flow channels of the manifold.

16 . The system of claim 15 , further comprising a reduced-pressure source adapted to be in fluid communication with the reduced-pressure delivery tube.

17 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the manifold delivery tube and the reduced-pressure delivery tube are the same tube.

18 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the manifold is bioresorbable.

19 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the manifold serves as a scaffold for tissue growth.

20 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the manifold is adapted to foam and cure in the presence of a bodily fluid.

21 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the manifold is adapted to foam and cure in the presence of a bodily temperature.

22 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the manifold further comprises a bioresorbable polymer dissolved in a solvent and mixed with sodium bicarbonate and citric acid.

23 . The system of claim 22 , wherein the bioresorbable polymer is one of a polylactide-co-glycolide (PLAGA) polymer and a polyethylene glycol-PLAGA copolymer.

24 . The system of claim 22 , wherein the solvent is methylene chloride.

25 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the flowable material is chosen from the group of a liquid, a slurry, a suspension, a viscous gel, a paste, a putty, and particulate solids.

26 . The system of claim 15 , wherein:

the flowable material undergoes a phase change in the presence of at least one of a bodily fluid and a bodily temperature; and

the flowable material includes a poragen that dissolves following curing of the flowable material, the dissolution of the poragen creating the plurality of flow channels.

27 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the flowable material includes microspheres having a coating that is capable of being selectively cross-linked following delivery of the flowable material to the tissue site.

28 . The system of claim 27 , wherein the coating is selectively cross-linked in response to at least one of heat, light, and a chemical.

29 . The system of claim 27 , wherein the microspheres following cross-linking create the plurality of flow channels.

30 . The system of claim 15 , wherein:

the flowable material is chosen from the group of a paste and a putty having an initial viscosity;

the viscosity of the flowable material decreases below the initial viscosity in the presence of shear forces during delivery to the tissue site; and

the viscosity of the flowable material reverts to the initial viscosity following delivery of the flowable material to the tissue site.

31 . A system for treating a tissue site, comprising:

a delivery tube adapted to be inserted percutaneously in the tissue site; and

a flowable material adapted to be delivered through the delivery tube to form a manifold at the tissue site;

wherein the flowable material undergoes a phase change in the presence of at least one of a bodily fluid and a bodily temperature.

32 . A system for treating a tissue site, comprising:

a delivery tube configured to be percutaneously inserted in the tissue site; and

a flowable bioresorbable material comprising a gel or gel-forming solution and a gas-forming porogen.

33 . The system of claim 32 , wherein the gas-forming porogen is a mixture of an acid and a carbonate salt.

34 . The system of claim 33 , wherein the acid is citric acid.

35 . The system of claim 33 , wherein the carbonate salt is ammonium bicarbonate, sodium bicarbonate, or calcium carbonate.

36 . The system of claim 32 , wherein the gel or gel-forming solution comprises collagen, gelatin, hyaluronic acid, or combinations thereof.

37 . The system of claim 32 , further comprising a non-gas forming porogen.

38 . The system of claim 32 , wherein the flowable bioresorbable material further comprises a microspheres or fibers.

39 . The system of claim 32 , wherein the flowable bioresorbable material further comprises a compound adapted to add stiffness to the dressing.

40 . The system of claim 39 , wherein the compound is calcium sulfate hemihydrate.

41 . The system of claim 32 , wherein the flowable bioresorbable material further comprises a bioactive agent.

42 . The system of claim 41 , wherein the bioactive agent is an antibiotic.

43 . The system of claim 41 , wherein the bioactive agent is a growth factor.

44 . The system of claim 32 , wherein the flowable bioresorbable material further comprises a mammalian cell.
