Abstract

A method of documenting installation of a fluid handling device in a fluid flow system using a form and an identification device. The identification device has a first portion with first identification information and a second portion with second identification information. The method comprises installing the fluid handling device in the fluid flow system. The method further comprises checking for leaks associated with the fluid handling device installed in the fluid flow system. The second portion of the identification device is separated from the fluid handling device while the first portion of the identification device remains coupled to the fluid handling device after checking for leaks. The second portion of the identification device is then affixed to the form.

Claims (26)

1. A method of documenting installation of a fluid handling device in a fluid flow system using a form and an identification device coupled to the fluid handling device, the identification device having a first portion with first identification information and a second portion with second identification information required by the form, said method comprising the steps of:

installing the fluid handling device in the fluid flow system;

checking for leaks associated with the fluid handling device installed in the fluid flow system;

separating the second portion of the identification device from the fluid handling device while the first portion of the identification device remains coupled to the fluid handling device after checking for leaks; and

affixing the second portion of the identification device to the form after the second portion is separated from the fluid handling device.

2. The method as set forth in claim 1 wherein separating the second portion from the fluid handling device is further defined as tearing the identification device between the first and second portions.

3. The method as set forth in claim 2 wherein tearing the identification device between the first and second portions is further defined as tearing the identification device along a perforation between the first and second portions.

4. The method as set forth in claim 1 wherein affixing the second portion of the identification device to the form includes removing a backing from the second portion to expose an adhesive layer before affixing the second portion to the form.

5. The method as set forth in claim 4 wherein affixing the second portion of the identification device to the form includes affixing the second portion in a space on the form requiring the second identification information.

6. The method as set forth in claim 1 including recording a location of the fluid handling device on the form.

7. The method as set forth in claim 1 further including transferring the second identification information from the second portion of the identification device affixed to the form into a record keeping system.

8. The method as set forth in claim 7 wherein transferring the second identification information from the second portion of the identification device affixed to the form into the record keeping system further includes transferring a location of the fluid handling device into the record keeping system.

9. The method as set forth in claim 1 further including generating a notification based upon the second identification information.

10. The method as set forth in claim 9 wherein generating the notification based upon the second identification information is further defined as generating the notification following a predetermined time period after the date of manufacture of the fluid handling device.

11. The method as set forth in claim 10 wherein generating the notification based upon the second identification information is further defined as generating one of a maintenance notification or a replacement notification.

12. The method as set forth in claim 1 wherein separating the second portion of the identification device from the fluid handling device while the first portion of the identification device remains coupled to the fluid handling device is further defined as separating a second label from a first label while the first label remains coupled to the fluid handling device.

13. The method as set forth in claim 1 wherein installing the fluid handling device in the fluid flow system is further defined as installing the fluid handling device in a propane system.

14. The method as set forth in claim 1 wherein installing the fluid handling device in the fluid flow system is further defined as installing a pressure regulator in a propane system.

15. The method as set forth in claim 1 further including placing the first and second identification information onto the first and second portions of the identification device.

16. The method as set forth in claim 15 wherein placing the first and second identification information onto the first and second portions of the identification device further includes printing identical information relating to the fluid handling device specifications and a part number onto each of the first and second portions of the identification device.

17. The method as set forth in claim 1 further including coupling the identification device to the fluid handling device prior to installing the fluid handling device.

18. The method as set forth in claim 17 wherein coupling the identification device to the fluid handling device is further defined as affixing the first portion of the identification device to the fluid handling device with the second portion of the identification device detached from the fluid handling device.

19. A method of documenting installation of a fluid handling device in a fluid flow system using a form and an identification device coupled to the fluid handling device, the identification device having identification information required by the form, said method comprising the steps of:

installing the fluid handling device in the fluid flow system;

separating a portion of the identification device from the fluid handling device after installing the fluid handling device in the fluid flow system; and

affixing the portion of the identification device to the form after separating the portion of the identification device from the fluid handling device.
