COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS FOR TREATING OCULAR EDEMA, NEOVASCULARIZATION AND RELATED DISEASES
Disclosed are methods for the treatment of diseases or conditions of the eye, especially retinopathies, ocular edema and ocular neovascularization. Non-limiting examples of these diseases or conditions include diabetic macular edema, age-related macular degeneration (wet form), choroidal neovascularization, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusion (central or branch), ocular trauma, surgery induced edema, surgery induced neovascularization, cystoid macular edema, ocular ischemia, uveitis, and the like.
1 . A method for treating a disease of the eye, comprising administering to a subject an effective amount of a compound of the formula:

a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
2 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the disease is retinopathy.
3 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the disease is diabetic macular edema.
4 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the disease is age-related macular degeneration.
5 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the disease is diabetic retinopathy.
6 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the disease is characterized by increased neovascularization.
7 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the disease is characterized by ocular edema.
8 . A method for treating neovascularization of the eye, comprising administering to a subject an effective amount of a compound of the formula:

a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
9 . The method according to claim 8 , wherein the neovascularization is neovascularization of the retina.
10 . The method according to claim 9 , wherein the neovascularization is Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) induced retinal neovascularization.
11 . The method according to claim 8 , wherein the neovascularization is choroidal neovascularization.
12 . The method according to claim 8 , wherein the neovascularization is subretinal neovascularization.
13 . A method for treating a disease caused by neovascularization of the eye, comprising administering to a subject an effective amount of a compound of the formula:

a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof;
wherein the compound promotes phosphorylation of Tie2 in the endothelial cells of the vasculature.
14 . The method according to claim 13 , wherein the disease is retinopathy.
15 . The method according to claim 13 , wherein the disease is diabetic macular edema.
16 . The method according to claim 13 , wherein the disease is age-related macular degeneration.
17 . The method according to claim 13 , wherein the disease is diabetic retinopathy.
18 . The method according to claim 13 , wherein disease is subretinal neovascularization.
19 . The method according to claim 13 , wherein the disease is characterized by Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) induced retinal neovascularization.
20 . The method according to claim 13 , wherein the disease is choroidal neovascularization.
