Abstract

A biobased resilient tile includes at least one base layer, at least one film layer, and a topcoat. The base layer includes a polymeric binder and a filler. The base layer has at least about 20-95% weight of the filler and at least about 5% weight of recycled material. The film layer is supported by the base layer. The film layer is a rigid film selected from the group consisting of polyethyleneterephthalate, glycolated polyethyleneterephthalate, polybutylene terephthalate, polypropylene terephthalte, or a thermoplastic ionomer resin. The film layer includes recycled material. The topcoat is provided on the film layer. The topcoat is a radiation curable biobased coating comprising a biobased component selected from the group consisting of a biobased resin, a biobased polyol acrylate, or a biobased polyol.

Claims (24)

1 . A resilient flooring product, comprising: at least one base layer, the base layer comprising a polymeric binder and a filler, the base layer having at least about 20-95% weight of the filler and at least about 5% weight of recycled material;

further comprising at least one film layer supported by the base layer, the film layer being a rigid film comprising polyethyleneterephthalate, glycolated polyethyleneterephthalate, polybutylene terephthalate, polypropylene terephthalate, or a thermoplastic ionomer resin, wherein the polymeric binder comprises at least one biobased polyester, and wherein the biobased polyester comprises an aliphatic diol component and a diacid component consisting essentially of an aromatic diacid or a mixture of aromatic diacids.

2 . The resilient flooring product of claim 1 , wherein the base layer has 40-90% weight of the filler.

3 . The resilient flooring product of claim 2 , wherein the diacid component of the biobased polyester is selected from phthalic acid, phthalic acid anhydride, isophthalic acid, terephthalic acid, or a mixture thereof.

4 . The resilient flooring product of claim 1 , wherein the base layer has at least about 10% weight of the recycled material.

5 . The resilient flooring product of claim 1 , wherein the base layer further comprises a polyester comprising an aliphatic diol component, an aliphatic diacid component and an aromatic diacid component.

6 . The resilient flooring product of claim 5 , wherein the film layer includes recycled material.

7 . The resilient flooring product of claim 1 , wherein the recycled material is recycled polyethyleneterephthalate or recycled polybutylene terephthalate.

8 . The resilient flooring product of claim 7 , wherein the recycled polyethyleneterephthalate or recycled polybutylene-terephthalate are modified by a biobased polyester.

9 . The resilient flooring product of claim 1 , wherein the film layer includes a topcoat, the topcoat being a radiation curable coating.

10 . The resilient flooring product of claim 9 , wherein the radiation curable coating is a radiation curable biobased coating comprising a biobased component selected from the group consisting of a biobased resin, a biobased polyol acrylate, or a biobased polyol.

11 . The resilient flooring product of claim 10 , wherein the biobased component comprises plant oils, polyester, polyester-ether, vegetable oils, corn, cellulose, starch, sugar, or sugar alcohols.

12 . A resilient flooring product, comprising: at least one base layer, the base layer comprising a polymeric binder and a filler, the base layer having at least 20-95% weight of the filler and at least 5% weight of recycled material;

at least one film layer supported by the base layer, the film layer being a rigid film comprising polyethyleneterephthalate, glycolated polyethyleneterephthalate, polybutylene terephthalate, polypropylene terephthalate, or a thermoplastic ionomer resin, the film layer including recycled material; and

a topcoat provided on the film layer, the topcoat being a radiation curable biobased coating comprising a biobased component selected from the group consisting of a biobased resin, a biobased polyol acrylate, or a biobased polyol,

wherein the polymeric binder comprises a biobased polyester, and wherein the biobased polyester comprises an aliphatic diol component and a diacid component consisting essentially of an aromatic diacid or a mixture of aromatic diacids.

13 . The resilient flooring product of claim 12 , wherein the base layer has 40-90% weight of the filler.

14 . The resilient flooring product of claim 13 , wherein the diacid component of the biobased polyester is selected from phthalic acid, phthalic acid anhydride, isophthalic acid, terephthalic acid, or a mixture thereof.

15 . The resilient flooring product of claim 12 , wherein the base layer has at least 10% weight of the recycled material.

16 . The resilient flooring product of claim 12 , wherein the base layer further comprises a polyester comprising an aliphatic diol component, an aliphatic diacid component and an aromatic diacid component.

17 . The resilient flooring product of claim 12 , wherein the film layer recycled material is recycled polyethyleneterephthalate or recycled polybutylene terephthalate.

18 . The resilient flooring product of claim 17 , wherein the recycled polyethyleneterephthalate or recycled polybutylene terephthalate are modified by a biobased polyester.

19 . The resilient flooring product of claim 1 , wherein the base layer includes a percentage of filler of 70% to 80% by weight, and the filler includes limestone.

20 . The resilient flooring product of claim 12 , wherein the base layer includes a percentage of filler of 70% to 80% by weight, and the filler includes limestone.
