Abstract

A surgical instrument includes a first member defining a passageway defining a first axis. A second member is positioned in the passageway and includes a lip extending at an angle relative to a second axis defined by the second member that engages a flange of the first member. A third member engages an outer surface of the first member. The third member includes an end surface. A fourth member defines a pathway having the first and second members disposed therein. The fourth member includes a first locking element. A fifth member includes a body including an inner surface that engages the third member. The fifth member includes a plurality of straps extending outwardly from the body. At least one of the straps includes a second locking element that engages the first locking element to fix the fourth member relative to the fifth member. Systems and methods are disclosed.

Claims (19)

1. A surgical instrument, comprising:

a first member extending along a first longitudinal axis between opposite first and second ends, the first end including a flange extending transverse to the first longitudinal axis;

a second member extending along a second longitudinal axis between opposite first and second ends, the first end of the second member comprising a lip that engages the flange, the lip extending transverse to the second longitudinal axis; and

a third member comprising an end surface configured to engage the lip,

wherein the third member is movable relative to the first and second members between a first configuration in which the end surface is spaced apart from the lip and the second longitudinal axis extends parallel to the first longitudinal axis and a second configuration in which the end surface engages the lip and the second longitudinal axis extends at an acute angle relative to the first longitudinal axis,

wherein an inner surface of the third member comprises an internal thread form and an outer surface of the first member comprises an external thread form that engages the internal thread form to move the third member between the first and second configurations; and

wherein the end surface is positioned between the internal thread form and an upper surface of the third member.

2. A surgical instrument as recited in claim 1 , wherein the lip extends at an acute angle relative to the first longitudinal axis when the third member is in the first configuration and the lip extends parallel to the first longitudinal axis when the third member is in the second configuration.

3. A surgical instrument as recited in claim 1 , wherein the third member moves between the first and second configurations by rotating the third member relative to the first and second members.

4. A surgical instrument as recited in claim 1 , wherein:

an inner surface of the first member comprises a recess and an outer surface of the second member comprises a projection; and

the projection is disposed in the recess when the third member is in the first configuration and is spaced apart from the recess when the third member is in the second configuration.

5. A surgical instrument as recited in claim 4 , wherein the recess and the projection each have a hemispherical configuration.

6. A surgical instrument as recited in claim 1 , wherein at least one of the first member and the second member comprises a light source.

7. A surgical instrument as recited in claim 6 , wherein the light source is a light emitting diode.

8. A surgical instrument as recited in claim 1 , wherein:

the flange comprises an arcuate portion extending between linear portions of the flange, the first member comprising an arcuate surface opposite the arcuate portion;

the second member comprises a wall including an arcuate outer surface that extends between planar side walls of the second member; and

the arcuate outer surface slidingly engages the arcuate surface and the side walls slidingly engage the linear portions.
