Abstract

The invention is related to phosphorus substituted compounds with antiviral activity, compositions containing such compounds, and therapeutic methods that include the administration of such compounds, as well as to processes and intermediates useful for preparing such compounds.

Claims (13)

1. A compound of formula:

or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

4. A pharmaceutical composition comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient and a compound of formula:

or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

5. A pharmaceutical composition comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient and a compound of formula:

6. A pharmaceutical composition comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient and a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of a compound of formula:

7. A method for promoting an anti-viral effect in vitro or in vivo, comprising contacting a sample in need of such treatment with a compound of formula:

or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

8. A method of inhibiting a viral infection in an animal, comprising administering an effective amount of a compound of formula:

or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, to the animal.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the viral infection is an HIV infection.
