Abstract

Disclosed herein is a contact detecting device including: a contact responding section configured to produce an electric change in response to an object to be detected coming into contact with or proximity to a detecting surface; and a contact driving scanning section configured to scan application of driving voltage to the contact responding section in one direction within the detecting surface, and control output of the electric change in time series, wherein the contact driving scanning section performs a plurality of scans of different regions of the contact responding section in parallel with each other, and outputs a plurality of the electric changes in parallel with each other.

Claims (21)

1 .- 17 . (canceled)

18 . A contact detecting device comprising:

a contact responding section configured to produce an electric signal change in response to an object to be detected coming into contact with or proximity to a detecting surface, said contact responding section including a plurality of regions extending in a second direction in parallel with each other;

a contact driving scanning section configured to scan application of a driving voltage to said contact responding section in a first direction within said detecting surface to control output of said electric signal change in time series, said contact driving scanning section applying said driving voltage to a group of a predetermined number of consecutive regions among said plurality of regions, said predetermined number of consecutive regions being electrically coupled each other in common upon being applied with said driving voltage;

a plurality of detecting lines extending in said first direction in parallel with each other; and

a detecting section configured to detect occurrence of said electric signal change from a voltage change in said plurality of detecting lines, and identify a position of the occurrence,

wherein

said contact driving scanning section supplies driving voltages of the same amplitude to the predetermined number of consecutive regions, and

said detecting section identifies one of said plurality of regions with which said object to be detected is in contact or to which said object to be detected is in proximity on a basis of a voltage change of said detecting lines.

19 . The contact detecting device set forth in claim 1 , wherein

said group includes N (≧2) regions,

a predetermined number of sets of N detecting lines among said plurality of detecting lines are arranged in such a manner that the predetermined number of sets of N detecting lines overlap any of the N regions.

20 . The contact detecting device set forth in claim 19 , wherein said contact driving scanning section supplies driving voltages of the same amplitude to said N regions.

21 . A contact detecting device comprising:

a contact responding section configured to produce an electric signal change in response to an object to be detected coming into contact with or proximity to a detecting surface, said contact responding section including a plurality of regions extending in a second direction in parallel with each other;

a contact driving scanning section configured to scan application of a driving voltage to said contact responding section in a first direction within said detecting surface to control output of said electric signal change in time series, said contact driving scanning section performing a plurality of scans of different regions of the contact responding section in parallel with each other;

a plurality of detecting lines extending in said first direction in parallel with each other; and

a detecting section configured to detect occurrence of said electric signal change from a voltage change in said plurality of detecting lines, and identify a position of the occurrence,

wherein

said contact driving scanning section supplies driving voltages of the same amplitude to the different regions of the contact responding section, and

said detecting section identifies one of said plurality of regions with which said object to be detected is in contact or to which said object to be detected is in proximity on a basis of a voltage change of said detecting lines.
