Abstract

Provided are architectures, systems, methods, and computer program products for real-time object locating and position determination using frequency channel diversity for transmitting and receiving position determination signals including bursts of location signals. Channelized frequency diversity of a short burst of small location signals that “hop” across multiple frequency channels is used to collectively produce a quasi-wideband position determination signal. Object tags operating with frequency channel diversity for transmitting location signals of position determination signals require low power consumption, but can still efficiently provide adequate position determination signals for reliable position determination.

Claims (38)

a transmitter configured to transmit the position determination signal to a central computer, wherein the location signal is transmitted at least on and within the first frequency channel in dynamically adjustable time duration bursts and on and within the second frequency channel in dynamically adjustable time duration bursts.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the controller is configured to discard the location signal in an instance in which the location signal is determined to be outside of an acceptable range of values.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the acceptable range of values is determined by the controller based upon the location signal received from the plurality of wireless receivers.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the controller is configured to compile a data load partitioned between the data of the location signal received via the plurality of wireless receivers, and wherein the transmitter is further configured to transmit the data load.

5. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a timer configured to measure an arrival time of the location signal received via each of the plurality of wireless receivers, wherein the controller is further configured to associate the location signal received via the first frequency channel with the corresponding arrival time of the location signal received via the second frequency channel, thereby defining the location data, and wherein the transmitter is further configured to transmit the arrival time with the location signal received via each of the plurality of wireless receivers to the central computer.

6. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a timer configured to measure an arrival time of the location signal received via the first frequency channel, wherein the controller is further configured to determine the time differences of arrival of the location signal received via the second frequency channel, thereby defining the location data, and wherein the transmitter is further configured to transmit the time of arrival of the location signal received via the first frequency channel and the time differences of arrival of the location signal received via the second frequency channel to the central computer.

7. A system comprising:

a first wireless receiver configured to receive a location signal transmitted on a first frequency channel;

a second wireless receiver configured to receive the location signal transmitted on a second frequency channel, wherein the first frequency channel is at a different frequency when compared to the second frequency channel;

a controller configured to generate a position determination signal based on the location signal received by the first wireless receiver and the second wireless receiver; and

a transmitter configured to transmit the position determination signal to a central computer, wherein the location signal is transmitted at least on and within the first frequency channel in dynamically adjustable time duration bursts and on and within the second frequency channel in dynamically adjustable time duration bursts.

8. The system of claim 7 , wherein the controller is configured to discard the location signal in an instance in which the location signal is determined to be outside of an acceptable range of values.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the acceptable range of values is determined by the controller based upon the location signal received from the first wireless receiver and the second wireless receiver.

10. The system of claim 7 , wherein the controller is configured to compile a data load partitioned between the data of the location signal received via first wireless receiver and the second wireless receiver, and wherein the transmitter is further configured to transmit the data load.

11. The system of claim 7 , further comprising a timer configured to measure an arrival time of the location signal received via each of the first wireless receiver and the second wireless receiver, wherein the controller is further configured to associate the location signal received via the first frequency channel with the corresponding arrival time of the location signal received via the second frequency channel, thereby defining the location data, and wherein the transmitter is further configured to transmit the arrival time with the location signal received via each of the first wireless receiver and the second wireless receiver to the central computer.

12. The system of claim 7 , further comprising a timer configured to measure an arrival time of the location signal received via the first frequency channel, wherein the controller is further configured to determine the time difference of arrival of the location signal received via the second frequency channel, thereby defining the location data, and wherein the transmitter is further configured to transmit the time of arrival of the location signal received via the first frequency channel and the time difference of arrival of the location signal received via the second frequency channel to the central computer.

13. The system of claim 7 , wherein the first wireless receiver is configured to monitor the first frequency channel and the second wireless receiver is configured to monitor the second frequency channel.

14. A method, comprising:

receiving, by a plurality of wireless receivers, a location signal transmitted over multiple different frequency channels, wherein the plurality of wireless receivers comprise at least one receiver configured to receive location signals on a first frequency channel of the multiple different frequency channels and at least one receiver configured to receive location signals on a second frequency channel of the multiple different frequency channels, wherein the second frequency channel is distinct from the first frequency channel;

generating, by a controller, a position determination signal based on the location signal received by the plurality of wireless receivers; and

transmitting, by a transmitter, the position determination signal to a central computer, wherein the location signal is transmitted at least on and within the first frequency channel of multiple different frequency channels in dynamically adjustable time duration bursts and on and within the second frequency channel of the multiple different frequency channels in dynamically adjustable time duration bursts.

15. The method of claim 14 , further comprising determining, by the controller, if the location signal received via one of the plurality of wireless receivers is outside of an acceptable range of values and, in an instance in which the location signal received via one of the multiple different frequency channels is outside of the acceptable range of values, discarding the location signal.
