CONSUMPTION PROFILE FOR MOBILE MEDIA
Optimizing delivery of content by a mobile media platform includes using a processor of the mobile media platform to configure a consumption profile for a content item comprising attributes of devices on which the content item can be accessed, a profile of networks on which the content item can be delivered, and attributes of the content item. Optimizing delivery of content further includes optimizing at least one of ingestion of content, encoding of content, and hosting of content based on the consumption profile; and optimizing delivery of content based on the consumption profile.
1 . A method of optimizing delivery of content by a mobile media platform, comprising:
using a processor of the mobile media platform to configure a consumption profile for a content item comprising attributes of devices on which the content item can be accessed, a profile of networks on which the content item can be delivered, and attributes of the content item;
optimizing at least one of ingestion of content, encoding of content, and hosting of content based on the consumption profile; and
optimizing delivery of content based on the consumption profile.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the optimizing delivery of content based on the consumption profile enables pausing and resuming playback.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the optimizing delivery of content based on the consumption profile generates pause points for advertising insertions.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the optimizing at least one of ingestion of content, encoding of content, and hosting of content based on the consumption profile enables optimization of a given limited screen real estate.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the optimizing delivery is for mobile consumption as determined from the consumption profile.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the optimizing delivery may comprise applying a consumption profile to an individual usage session.
7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein an individual usage session is associated with at least one factor that affects delivery.
8 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the at least one factor that affects delivery includes at least one of, device playback capabilities, device content delivery mechanism support, content digital rights management regime, and content characteristics.
9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the optimizing at least one of ingestion of content, encoding of content, and hosting of content based on the consumption profile includes redirecting to a search engine that optimizes search results for the device and network associated with the consumption profile.
10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the consumption profile includes at least one of a device profile, a user profile, a network profile, and an encoding profile.
11 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising modifying the consumption profile based on data about the usage of the content.
12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the consumption profile is periodically updated based on at least one optimization.
13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the optimization is updated based on the modified consumption profile.
14 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the optimization is based on the anticipated use of the content within a social network.
15 . The method of claim 1 , wherein optimizing delivery of content includes pausing the ingestion of content.
16 . A method of optimizing delivery of content by a mobile media platform, comprising:
using a processor of the mobile media platform to configure a consumption profile for a content item comprising attributes of devices on which the content item can be accessed, a profile of networks on which the content item can be delivered, and attributes of the content item;
optimizing at least one content item processing activity of the mobile media platform based on the consumption profile; and
optimizing delivery of content based on the consumption profile.
17 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the at least one content item processing activity is selected from the list consisting of ingestion, encoding, and hosting.
18 . A method of optimizing delivery of content by a mobile media platform, comprising:
accessing with a processor of the mobile media platform a consumption profile for a content item comprising attributes of devices on which the content item can be accessed, a profile of networks on which the content item can be delivered, and attributes of the content item;
optimizing at least one of ingestion of content, encoding of content, and hosting of content based on at least one of the attributes of devices, the profile of networks, and the content item attributes; and
optimizing delivery of content based on the consumption profile.
19 . The method of claim 18 , wherein optimizing delivery of content comprises optimizing delivery of a content item associated with the consumption profile.
20 . The method of claim 18 , wherein the optimizing delivery is for mobile consumption as determined from the consumption profile.
